Texan here. Winter used to be a nice break from our hot, humid, miserable summers. Now some years I don't even need to wear a jacket. It's just hot all year round now. I hate it.

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

The only season I can enjoy outside is Fall. Summer is too hot, Winter is too cold, and I get allergies in the Spring.

Fall is perfect.

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I really love both seasons. You just have to find reasons to love it. For winter its sledding, snowball fights, snowboarding and hot drinks. For summer its swimming, sun bathing, icecream, and bbqs. Then spring and fall are perfect for sports and hiking and stuff

after that snowcrete we had here in the midlantic, I swore I'd never complain about the heat again. It's tough, but I'm holding to my promise. (It's only 98 out so far.)

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is snowcrete melted+refrozen snow?

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

It snowed a few inches, then sleeted on top of it for hours. The sleet caused the snow to compact, and by the time it was done, a shovelful of the stuff weighed 50 pounds. People were breaking it up with metal shovels and building igloos out of it. Big highway plows on dumptrucks were riding right over the top of it. The only way to move it was with those little skid steer things with shovels on the front. Even they would get jammed up under it and their front wheels would come off the ground.

Cities dug the stuff up and put it in dumptrucks and took it to places like the parking lots of sports arenas and piled it three and four stories high, and it didn't completely melt until, like, May. I forget where it was, maybe Baltimore, where the snow/ice pile was so heavy it cracked the surface of the parking lot it was piled on.

Oh, and this was in the midst of several days of overnight lows in the single digits and days in the teens.

There's no limit to how many layers I can wear in winter, but there's a limit to how many I can take off in the summer. Simple as

[–] cecinestpasunecommunication@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You don't have a knife? They're not nearly as expensive as a good coat.

[–] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Yeah but putting that layer back might be very expensive 😄

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even with a knife scraping off everything that makes you human, you will eventually encounter a limit.

There is definitely a limit to how many layers you can put on.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 10 points 1 day ago

I mean a shirt, sweater, and insulated jacket can keep me very warm flying down a windy mountain at <-20C so do you really need that many layers?

[–] isekaihero@ani.social 7 points 1 day ago

I've done undershirt - overshirt - jacket 1 - jacket 2 in the dead of winter. If the Sun vanished and the temperature plummeted to -100 I'm pretty sure i could figure out how to add a third jacket and then a blanket on top of that.

[–] mursejoy@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

This is everyone in Arizona in the summer. “At least there is no windshield scraping!”

AZ people are delusional.

I much prefer autumn/winter. Only when it gets really slippery from frozen over streets it starts to suck, i can always dress warmer. I cant wear less than nothing, and it is still way too hot.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 25 points 1 day ago (12 children)

Summer people are all masochists.

Can always put on more clothes, but can't undress more than naked...

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 22 points 2 days ago

mosquitoes are not a problem in the winter.

Remember when humanity had not almost eradicated two seasons through climate change and you could be a spring or autumn lover?

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember when the wet bulb temperature was evolutionarily advantageous for sweat-monsters like me? Now I'm just as hot, and infinitely more wet than everyone around me.

I love summer.
I’d rather have 90° than 9°.
I like having daylight past 4pm.
I like seeing blue skies and the sun.
I like being able to go outside without bundling up under five layers, and still being cold.
I like not having to shovel my walks, snowblower my drive, scrape off my car, etc.
I like swimming.
I like seeing green trees, colorful flowers , bumblebees, and nature.
I like taking my kid to the park so he can ride his skateboard.
I like going to the beach.

Fuck winter, man.

Love the summer. I love my skin not feeling cold as balls as soon as I step outside. Love not taking a cold ass shower in the morning before work. Love the sun being out later into the evening. Love doing outdoor shit. Swimming. Love the warm nights. Hanging out naked.

Winter is the sad time.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Why do you take cold showers in the winter? That seems like a poor personal choice if you don't enjoy the cold

I love summer, but you have to do it right. Going to the store and walking across a hot blacktop parking lot is asking for a bad time.

Hanging out in a park, going for hike, swimming, hitting the beach, more daylight hours, ice cream, grilling and admiring the greenery. That's peak life on Earth 🌎🌍

[–] Gahidus@lemmus.org 12 points 1 day ago

All of those things happen outside in the blistering heat with the sun beating down on you as your sweat makes your clothes stick to your body. No thanks. You can also do them all far better in spring or fall.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

Heat index was about 42°C and humid today. Just being outside for 30 seconds was miserable, let alone walking. Can't even think about any outdoor activities.
