Whether intentionally or not, what do movies depict or present wrong a lot of the time?

The message in films that police, law, and the military are protectors and heroes instead of "every soldier, cop, and bureaucrat are complicit if not actively engaged and fully believing fascists."

The good guy winning.

One I read about once.

Bonking people over the head to knock them out.

If you manage to hit them hard enough to actually put them out like that, they are likely bleeding internally and going to die without immidiate hospital care. Maybe even die anyway.

When people wake up after sex they usually have their underwear on again.

[–] stretch2m@infosec.pub 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Or they wake up and make out like their breath doesn't smell like ass.

Or they have the blankets configured in an L shape so you see the man's chest, but not the woman's chest.

People getting shot or killed. In reality, they don’t die instantly. They will act more surprised, then the panic sets in as they realise what happened and the pain sets in. They will cry for help as they slowly bleed out. It will take minutes. But that doesn’t look good on the screen. Some movies did parody this.

Poor people living in condos.

I find that they too often exaggerate the wisdom of following the orders of the bad guy. Like, if they say "drop your weapon or I shoot the hostage" okay sure, maybe consider dropping your weapon, depending on circumstances. If it's "give me the MacGuffin I need to release the neurotoxin and kill fifty million people or I shoot the hostage" maybe don't do that.

Horror/suspense movies where the character slowly turns their head to see what's behind them. A normal person would whip their head around pretty quickly if they feel/hear something scary.

Any time a car or other vehicle is involved in an accident, it erupts in a massive explosion or fireball. If every car did that IRL, the fire department would never be out of a job knowing how they hand out licenses like candy.

In anti-authoritarian movies, they don't go beyond what happens after the revolution or "the day after" as Slavoj Zizek always say. Unfortunately in real life, post-revolutions do not always lead to a happy ending. Just ask most of post-colonial states. Only a handful succeed and become prosperous and secure.
