Im running cosmic desktop on arch, its actually very good! I have enabled automatic tiling of windows and its just super convenient. Like a tiling window manager but with all the stuff most people want built-in (top bar, notifications, screenshots, screen sharing etc).

You cant customize it as much as a real tiling window manager but if all you want is for your windows to tile, its awesome.

The only thing you should give Microsoft is the finger.

Tell the Lemmy crowd that... :) Its enormous groupthink here. Maybe because of younger audience.

With chat gpt you can select from a number of personalities, where robot is very fact based and logical to the point of being almost insulting. Its very good actually and hits my ego instead of stroking it.

It can say things like "fix your thinking, stop making assumptions, these are the facts".

First one is elegant but has no charm or personality. Second one feels like people are living there and enjoying it.

First one says "i have money but no real friends". :)

You do have some of those companies but they are super large and cant grow anymore. They have essentially taken over the entire market.

For a small company, money is safety and power. So they always want more, because otherwise they feel like someone could disrupt them and make them irrelevant.

Its the same psychology as with humans. We always want more comfort, safety, and that requires money.

I never thought of it as slow. More like very reliable. I dont need my data to move fast, I need it to be copied with 100% reliability.

I dont think being under the thumb of Google or Apple is any better. And Linux is just a much better choice than bsd for almost all people. That being said, I was impressed to learn that hacker news run their entire site on a single server with openbsd. :)

Lol sometimes it feels like that here :)

Its so dumb. Linux is the only way to actually get out from under the thumb of Microsoft and its so easy these days to switch.

You can store uploads on a different drive if you want also.
