Because it leads to voluntary tiktokifcation of vocabulary.

A lot of people online these days use silly workaround phrases to get around hidden word filters, from "sewerslide" to "sesbian lex" (a trend that really got off the ground years ago on tik tok). Social media sites suppress or remove content containing these words to keep things advertiser-friendly. One nice thing about non-corpo social media such as the lemmyverse is that we don't need to speak in such strange, convoluted, and infantalizing ways. My brother didn't have a sewerslide, he comitted suicide. I don't have sesbian lex, I fuck dykes.

More to the point, I find it incredibly offputting that we're allowed to discuss unpleasant concepts but not name them. With the appropriate trigger warnings, anyone here can discuss the sexual violence that came with the Nakba (or the recent Israeli riots calling for the ",right to **** Palestinian prisoners). Or we could talk about the historiocity of claims that the Red Army ****ed its way through Germany at the end of WWII.

Everyone knows what I mean with the censored words. We're all intelligent adults discussing history and horrific world events. Why can we discuss a concept but not name it?

This filter is the stupidest fucking shit. Hexbear isn't some huge social media site like reddit and it's not a brine pool of reactionaries like 4chan. I trust that most people around here know how to use words responsibly and appropriately (for example, when directly quoting a historical figure). Mods can sort out edge case edgelords. Why is it necessary to outright prohibit this?
