The last part about governments not acting upon reckless driving, I think it depends on the country. In the Netherlands it is pretty well done. Most disciplined drivers you could find in the world.

Thing is, it is already happening. Don't forget that teenager that killed himself because his AI girlfriend told him to.

Also look at the other comment.

It will become even worse once realistic robots become a thing, and there will most definitely be versions with holes.

Daar verschillen wij dan van mening. Ik vind het meestal een bad-faith argument wanneer mensen op basis van de huidige technologie tegen het principe van zelfrijdende auto's zijn.

Dat laatste geeft ook aan dat je psychologisch iets erop tegen hebt (wat volledig begrijpelijk is, maar toch noemenswaardig).

In one of my other comments I mentioned the reduce of traffic jams as an argument, due to coordination between vehicles.

About the accidents: reckless drivers also (mainly even I think, no source) kill innocent people on the road. Reducing the total amount of deaths is more important than some supposed moral superiority of only reckless drivers dying vs people dying due to technical faults.

No, you can't build train tracks to literally every village. Do you want all the land area to be covered in train tracks instead of roads?

We hebben het over een hypothetische toekomst waar de technologie veiliger zou zijn dan mensen. Natuurlijk laten we niet voertuigen rijden die gevaarlijk zijn. Dat is ook niet waar het over ging.

Overigens rijden er al een decennia zelfrijdende bussen in Rotterdam.

True, but that requires me having a drivers license + requires me driving. We are talking about the comparison to train commutes and the usefulness of self-driving technology. I don't drive the train.
