I didn’t expect Mamdani to win. I thought the Party machinery was unbeatable. I was wrong. I’ve learned some mind-bending lessons.

As someone in the US you're not that far off even with the sarcasm.

A lot of us are still blind to it, but around the 2010 period we had a massive consolidation of news media by major corporations. The entirety of our "legacy media" are corporations that only care about profit and creating a "news product" for their intended audience. I can't think of any well known publication that is "independent" from corporate propaganda influence let alone political. The right actually does recognize this to some extent and get really irritated about focus on social issues related to identity as that's the only "safe" conversation for corporations to have that feed their intended "news product audience." So they see that news as manufactured and it reenforces their desire to seek "other media" that confirm their biases.

What I do know is the right wingers are having a feast. Their media embraces the worst of their far right troglodytes as they always embrace the Republicans mission of feeding the wealthy. The so called "left wing" media will join in on the bashing of anyone to the left of Joe Biden as they also aim to protect the status quo of "feed the wealthy."

There's no real culture war, there is only class war. :/

I'm almost 40 and this has been literally the hardest thing in the universe to do for my entire life. It doesn't help to do it, but to deny it feels like I'm lying to myself anyway.

I have the absolute worst double standard with this. You drop a pencil and "it's ok friend, it happens, no one is perfect." I drop a pencil and it's "wtf butterfingers jackass, you can't even hold a pencil properly no wonder you're still single." Lol

The United States is a righteous, fair, and just country.

This one really fucked me up as I got older. In school they just brainwashed us into believing we were always the good guys and we always got into wars to help save people from oppression... Then you find out we only ever get into wars to stop people from choosing the wrong kind of government that won't let US businesses exploit their resources or people... We never act out of kindness or solidarity.

The way I like to say it now is: your age describes how many times the earth has circled the sun after you were born. That's literally it.

Maturity and wisdom cannot be assumed from multiple trips around the sun.

It's a failure of terms used in US politics. When we say "left" and "right" we pretty much exclusively are talking about their position in respect to one another as opposed to the actual policies the parties hold.

Republicans are much more "conservative" (right wing) than Democrats (liberals) are, so the Republicans are the right and the Democrats become the "left" as they aren't as conservative and therefore they are "to the left" of Republicans.

If you were to look at global definitions as to what it means to be a left wing party, Democrats really don't fit there.

I was thinking about that this morning in regards to Ukraine to be honest. We in the US NEVER do something because it's the right thing to do, we do it for business interests. Trump made that more clear with his demands for a minerals deal in writing for continued military assistance in the war against Russia. Any other administration would "know" continued access to those minerals was implied with Ukraine retaining its independence.

I can't stand that this piece of shit gets to dictate what most of the world does in their own fucking countries... It's bad enough he's fucking us in the US...
