Honestly I don’t even know how to pronounce verisimilitude.

It's 'verisimilitude'.

Check out /e/ and iode. If you're looking for a phone with at least 5 years of support the only options are Pixel or Fairphone. Fairphone costs about 2x as much as Pixel for a phone with worst specs.

EU accepted 15% tariff AND it has to keep spending billions on oil, gas, and weapons from US. If it doesn't US can increase the tariffs. So to summarize:

  • EU has worst trade position than before
  • EU is still tied to US without clear way to become independent
  • the situation is only stabilized for now and Trump can "alter the deal" in the future

Great job Ursula!

Seriously, it's clear now that UE only has one card: let's build close business ties with everyone so they can't afford to fight us. Putin and Trump showed that this tactic doesn't work against strongmen but EU is unable to come up with anything else. EU has no power and it will all go downhill now.

Nihilism. Everything is terrible and there's nothing you can do about it. Take care of yourself, enjoy what you can while you still can and don't have kids.

EU just rolled over on trade with US. If anyone hopes for some actual fight against US and US corporations coming for Europe they will be disappointment.

Reform and Tories are splitting the rightwing vote, but no, the left cannot afford to further split the left vote.

There are two ways to look at this and two strategies:

  • Progressive party will split the left and it will get less MPs. We should play it safe, run moderate candidates and try to get some right leaning voters to vote for the left

or

  • real Progressive party will motivate voters and will actually be able to beat Reform. We should abandon the idea of reaching out to right leaning voters and aim for young voters that are disillusioned by current state of affairs and get them to vote

The first strategy usually fails because it legitimizes the right and demotivates the left. The second strategy tends to work but is not tried very often.

Isn't Reform UK party splitting the right-wing vote? Looks like a perfect moment to enter on the left with any chance of winning. Maybe they simply don't want to sit idly while Labour hands over power to Farage without fighting?

No, staffing will not be a problem. Those jobs are fairly easy to access (you only need some courses and certification), are not dangerous or highly stressful, and will not be replaced by AI or automation. Worst case scenario we will import nurses from developing countries. The only issue can be founding but in countries with stable social security retirements will cover most of the cost. If you're living in country with weak social security you will be fucked and kids may be necessary.

I think having kids as a retirement plan is pretty selfish. I would rather save money so that when I'm old I can afford proper assistance. This of course is not a valid option everywhere but where I live nursing homes are good and affordable and euthanasia is legal.
