Michigan law is clear: weapons on school property require strict action. Under Michigan School Code (MCL 380.1311), expulsion is mandatory when a student possesses a dangerous weapon in a weapon-free school zone. Importantly, a student would not be disciplined for disarming or disassembling a weapon to protect others.
Emphasis mine. Which the actions claimed by the mother states that this shouldn't be punishable.
