The problem with "standing up to the US" are the massive economic ties and - even a bigger concern - the needs for cooperation in defence and technology. It's bad if more than half your arsenal can be disabled simply by not providing spare parts. Even worse if you public infrastructure can be mostly shut down by disabling your services hosting on Amazon.
Luckily at the moment there ARE movements away from the US, but i think they are deliberate low-key to not trigger a (more) hostile action.
Yeah it's in a way like boiling a Beelzebufo, just never let the heat rise fast enough that it jumps out of the pot and bites your head off...
