I use it for my personal stuff. It's pretty rough. It gets the job done, but it's not fun to try and figure out how to do things with it. Charting in their spreadsheet program is frustrating.

It's just marginal at most anything it does. I use it to monitor my inbox and chats. It misses stuff all the time. I've actually had to use claude to create very specific prompts for Copilot agents. It helped a lot, but overall, it's just not very good.

I tried to get my company to buy my security team Anthropic tools, but they all fought me on it. My boss, my employees, everyone.

I told them that while we're here trying to make Copilot help us work through things, the bad guys are out there using anything they can get their hands on. In response, my boss said that we should focus on patching and not spend time concerning ourselves with what bad actors are doing to leverage AI.

I never understand the current anti-AI view for a lot of people. When regular people use it to try and help them do their jobs, they turn out slop, when adversaries use it to successfully and rapidly mount cyber attacks, all of a sudden it is scary effective? Which is it, because it can't be both. Either AI is shit and makes slop or it is effective in the hands of people that learn how to use it.

I used to get tickets constantly. I wasn't a wild speeder, just always got caught.

I drive MUCH faster now, more frequently and for longer durations. I also drive a bright green muscle car so I'm not inconspicuous at all. I haven't gotten a ticket in ages. The last time i did get one, I paid a lawyer to make it go away.

So money and a good beard seem to put a stop to most of that. Being able to go 80-90 and not worry too much about it is nice (on clear empty roads, not like a dickbag weaving through traffic).

I love watching people record fireworks displays.

It demonstrates who hasn't a brain in their head. Nobody wants to see your shit recording of fireworks, you're not going to watch it again. The sound includes six nearby people talking about their boring lives and a crying toddler. The video is shaky and wobbly.

Are you saying that it is or is NOT in my butthole?

Whatever, gonna stimulate that part anyway.

norepinephrine

I like to spray my hippocampus with the stuff, but I just use adderall instead.

One of the more notable drugs in the stimulant class is amphetamine, which acts as a dopamine and norepinephrine analog, reuptake inhibitor, as well as an agent that increases the amount of global catecholamine signaling throughout the nervous system by reversing transporters in the synapses.

Yeah, I don't love teams, but slack is dogballs. I know, let's make some more places for shit to be!

Some organizations require authenticator; they don't just use it for MFA codes, it's goes deeper than that.

Also, most large enterprise fall for the stupid Microsoft trap. They buy enterpise licensing in bulk (E3, E5, whatever) and bosses who have no brains will say "well, let's use more microsoft products since they're 'free'". The trap is that, yes, your enterprise license agreement includes entitlements to a lot of their stuff, but they nickle and dime you on stupid shit like the storage so you can keep the logging and telemetry data you typically need for security, troubleshooting and some audit requirements.

I can't imagine ever using any of their shit beyond Office products. Their security software is crap compared to most offerings, they still seem to think that networks are bad so we should do as little as possible about them. Azure is just a completely uncontrollable money drain (by design) that is damn near impossible to secure properly once you give developers enough access to actually do their jobs.

I've been working in security for a long time now and they continue to be such a fucking liability and drain on money at every turn. If I ran the zoo, I would switch the entire enteprise to Linux and find just about any other collaboration suite to use.

Fuck Excel and fuck you if all you do with it is make lists. Fuck powerpoint and fuck every boss who is too dumb to read and only can accept information when it is spoon fed to them in a deck. Word is OK, but nobody reads anymore so what's the point?

OMG no, no NO!

Baking soda and vinegar mixed together do fucking NOTHING to clean anything! It never has and it never will! You make carbon dioxide gas and sodium acetate. Neither of which do dick for cleaning.

Stop fucking telling people to do this, it is 100% worthless!

If you want to do anything, buy some sodium percarbonate powder and add that to your laundry. It's the active ingredient of so-called "oxygen bleach". Sodium percarbonate is good at removing stains and yellowing from white clothes and helping to take the stink out of smelly laundry. For really nasty stuff, mix up a few tablespoons in a bucket with hot water and let your stuff soak for an hour and then throw it through the machine.

Either that or just spend a little more money on quality laundry detergent. Plain old Tide works quite well for most people. If you have a top load washer, set it so that it fills the tub to the max. Front loaders and super eco-friendly washers are fine for most people, but for those that work outside or do dirty things for a living, you need more water and soap to get your stuff clean.

Borax or 20 Mule Team are good if you have hard water since it softens and will prevent minerals in the water from binding to the detergent such that the detergent remains available for cleaning your laundry vs just getting wasted by hard water. It doesn't necessarily clean stuff on it's own, but it just makes the detergent you have more efficient, thusly why it is often called a "laundry booster". It does have some properties that do help clean, but it is most effective as a pH buffer.

If you have hard water and nasty laundry, you can indeed mix sodium percarbonate and borax with your regular detergent. Soften and condition the water with the borax, permit the detergent to be more effective and the sodium percarbonate (which turns into hydrogen peroxide in water) will oxidize the filth in your clothes to keep things from being dingy and smelly without chlorine bleach.

I hear that the act of reading things that are a little bit challenging can be good for cognitive development.

I mean, we could also ask strangers to chew our food for us because chewing things can be difficult.

And that's the core of it.

Every poor moron thinks that one day they will get rich and they don't want to ruin things for their future rich self. The don't actually DO anything to get rich, they don't have a plan, resources, much intelligence, they're not doing anything to improve their life, go to school, seek a better job, learn about finances. But one day, they'll be rich. They believe this until they get to about 50-60, their health issues start creeping up, then it starts to dawn on them that they're over the hill and have no real future beyond the current state of affairs--same life, but just older, sicker and weaker. THEN they sometimes wake up and see the bullshit, but it's too late.

Some of these people pick up a modest inheritance from their dead parents, but they usually piss it away in a few years, certainly aren't going to invest it, use it to build anything or have any expectation of creating generational wealth. They buy a big pickup truck and some assorted stupid shit, and it's wasted in a flash.

I've been slowly moving away from Reddit, but I still go there occasionally. I was using it last night. Today, my account does not work. As I never used a real email address for it, there is no recovering it, but it's weird that it's just GONE. I had two other alts, both also gone. There was nothing that I saw in an inbox or message anywhere about "hey, we don't like you, you go away now" or anything. Just POOF. Anyone else or just me?

Perhaps it's for the best, just rip the band aid off and stop hanging around there anyway. Good times were had, but I guess it's time to move on.

With the recent issues of Tea (teaforwomen.com) posting unsecured user data, it's easy to spot the heavy bias of male users in the comments. With a 90% male demographic, Lemmy will face problems related to a homogeneous user population and all the issues that come with it. Right now, it's shaping up to be misogynistic, but it could also head into other bad places. Lemmy needs to attract a more diverse population of users or will end up as another echo chamber for the like minded. https://www.similarweb.com/website/lemmy.ml/#demographics

I am so tired of worrying about work. I'm talented in my field (cybersecurity), I've come up with some pretty amazing solutions, I've maintained excellent working relationships with people that matter. I did all the things you're supposed to. I went to graduate school, got a degree that directly relates to my work, even went the extra mile and got an extended degree with a focus in law and digital forensics. That added almost a solid year to my five years in grad school. I gave up nights, weekends, family gatherings, time with my then infant sons. I busted my ass and made the most of it. I've hunted down good jobs, worked my ass off, given my all on so many occasions. First time I got stung was in the middle of a huge all-weekend technology migration that I organized for over 100 people, my then boss told me that the company who had promised to hire me off of my contract had decided not to. I broke my back turning that whole effort in and he sat there on a sunday night in a conference room now that it was mostly over and said "sorry dude". Fuck you Phil.

Back to the streets, I worked my contacts and got myself a really good spot at a giant bank. Was going to be the big step in my career. I worked my ass off in there, fought off people who wanted to take my work away, tell me that they could all do it better. Got myself worked into a leadership position and then the rug came out. The boss who brought me over because he saw that I could make shit happen picked a fight with his boss (long time coming) and got fired. I don't blame him, his boss was a massive piece of shit, cheating on his dying-of-cancer wife. However that meant I got a new boss who was a fucking piece of ginger shit with some serious small dick energy. Most insecure asshole I'd ever met. I had to leave because I just could not get along with this cunt, so I found myself something not as good, but paid better. The ginger cunt went on to the c-suite and claimed my work as his own, even gave himself an award (literally) and bragged about it on LinkedIn.

New job is kinda crap, but it pays well enough. New boss is crazy, but thankfully quits. Next boss is a coworker, I was not told that he took the spot until long after it happened. He gave me a shit rating because ???, no bonus, no raise, fuck you scummy Russian asshole. He also quits (good fucking riddance) and for a moment, I have a boss who actually gives a shit about me. Dave was a good guy. I left the company because I wasn't going anywhere, six years in the same seat doing the same shit every day, enough is enough.

Next job is supposed to be the hotness. I am stupid and have no idea that private equity is horrible, but I believe the hype that they're going to take the new company public and we're all gonna hit it. I bust ass, hire people left and right, bring in people I've worked with for years, talented people who are loyal and good. Boss is a fucking rockstar and I'm awed with how smart he is. For the first time, I felt like the dumb kid in class, and it was a good thing as I needed a reality check. Learned a lot, grew a lot and uh-oh, boss is now sick. He disappears and new boss steps in. Same as always, new boss is a piece of shit (do we really have this many assholes in the world?!). Makes unreasonable demands, lies, makes promises he never keeps and then the worst. He fires me, almost all of my team and some other people just so it doesn't look like he ONLY fired brown people. That shit hurt.

I bounce back, find a new job in somewhat reasonable time, I had some severance so I never really had to go without a paycheck. It was close, but I got the next thing lined up and ready. Next thing is great. Guys who hire me are older, mature, calm, patient. They want to do things right. We start building the team from nothing. I'm hiring like mad, same as before, I bring in my trusted people because they're loyal and they bust their asses when needed. All of a sudden (take a fucking guess) old boss is replaced by new boss. Things are fine for a while, I figure maybe it will be ok after all. Nope, new company is now sold to bigger company and I'm fucking out again "this is financial, nothing to do with you". Means very little when you're ass out in a fucking dogshit economy.

So here I am, got a few weeks before short severance runs out. The only prospect I had going just said no. I have one more interview at the end of the month right before I'm out of severance. No other prospects, all of my contacts are coming up empty handed. I spend about four hours a day applying, networking, cold-calling new people, hitting any recruiter with a pulse, anything to find the next thing.

I'm so fucking sick of this. At one point, I thought I could crack the c-suite. Now I'm so goddamn beat up, I'd be happy if I didn't have to go looking for work every other year. I have no hope of ever getting to the top, I now realize that such jobs are only for those with rich parents, connections or the odd longshot by the underdog (though they will get fired soon enough). Rich people only want other rich people sitting next to them. I grew up ass-poor, and any connections I have are only from working, no daddy, no rich uncle or any of that. I don't need a fucking 2nd home, I don't need a goddamn Porsche. I buy my cars used and I fix my own home. I'm not wasting my money on expensive clothes, bullshit electronics or any of that. I'm not looking for the pot of gold, I just want some stability and predictability, MAYBE the chance of retiring before 75.

I'm tired y'all, I just am.
