Fair enough! Existing tools are great, but building something tailored just fits my workflow much better. Since I rely on it daily, I'll be actively maintaining it anyway—use whatever works best for you!

Good call on the passthrough trap! Fortunately, I don't use any device passthrough in my environment, so migrations won't be an issue.

The 15-minute ZFS sync is definitely a neat approach, but my main driver for network storage is that I already have a fairly large storage pool on the Synology that I want to put to good use. Keeping storage centralized just fits my backup and maintenance workflow a lot better. Thanks.

Thanks, this is really helpful feedback! I actually never considered USB NICs on the Synology because of the extra power draw and stability concerns, so sticking with native dual 1GbE (via LACP or MPIO) into a 2.5G switch is definitely my plan.

Indeed. With 2 nodes I’ll need to keep enough headroom for migrations if one goes down. Both hosts should normally stay online, but failure and maintenance capacity are definitely things I need to account for.

I’m also planning to monitor the whole setup through OpsHome NOC — both Proxmox hosts, workloads, Synology storage, and related services — so I can get a centralized view from my phone or web console wherever I am.

Thanks for the reminder!

That makes a lot of sense. I already have a Synology DS920+, so there’s no additional storage hardware cost on my end. The Tiny form factor is ideal for me mainly due to footprint and low noise, but total cost and idle power are definitely things I’m weighing.

Another route I’m considering is picking up just one more Tiny instead of two, and running an external Corosync QDevice directly on the DS920+ (via a lightweight Docker container) for the tiebreaker vote. That gives me a proper 2-node quorum without the hardware cost and power draw of a third physical node. Combined with the DS920+ for shared iSCSI storage, that might actually hit the sweet spot between cost, footprint, and HA.

Appreciate the reply! I’ve been running this Tiny for 2 years now and it’s been rock solid. My main hesitation is really finding the right price-to-performance sweet spot between compute and storage. Does this 3-node + Synology setup feel like a sensible middle ground, or am I overpaying/overthinking it?

I’m currently running Proxmox on a single Lenovo ThinkStation P330 Tiny. As my VMs workloads have grown, the 64GB of RAM is consistently sitting near capacity.

To spread the memory load and get proper HA, seamless VMs migration, and easier node maintenance, I’m considering adding two more matching units to build a 3-node cluster.

Planned Per-Node Specs:

. Chassis: Lenovo P330 Tiny . CPU: Intel Core i9-9900T ES . RAM: 64GB DDR4-3200 (running at 2666MHz platform limit) . Boot/Local Storage: 1TB NVMe

Networking: Upgraded to 2.5GbE

Shared Storage:

Synology NAS via iSCSI (SSD cache enabled) over 2.5GbE

Does this setup still offer good value for money, or are there better alternatives in this form factor?

I’d especially appreciate feedback on:

  1. 9900T ES stability: Long-term reliability and virtualization quirks under Proxmox.
  2. 2.5GbE bandwidth: Is it sufficient for 3 nodes sharing iSCSI, especially during backups or migrations?
  3. Synology iSCSI + SSD cache: Practical experience with this as primary VM shared storage across multiple P330 tiny nodes.
  4. Any other bottlenecks, hidden traps, or limitations I might be overlooking?

Thanks for the heads-up.

100% agree in theory! A calendar should be enough, but human nature and silent auto-renew failures always win. This is basically an automated safety net to save future-me from current-me. 😄

Hey all, I manage a number of domains and homelab services, and keeping track of certificates becomes annoying once there are more than a handful — especially for services and appliances that don't support ACME.

So I built a lightweight iOS app that periodically checks the certificate actually being served by each endpoint and alerts before expiry.

I'm giving away a few promo codes if anyone wants to test it: 👉 https://getfree.app/app/ssl-certificate-monitor

Would love to hear your thoughts or feature requests.

Disclosure: I'm the developer.

Thanks, I’ll check out ServerBox too.

Your point about not taking actions is useful. I’m also more interested in the monitoring side than remote control: quick health checks, alerts, Docker/container state, Synology/Proxmox visibility, and public checks in one iPhone view.

Do you use ServerBox mainly for Docker/Podman hosts, or does it cover your NAS/Proxmox setup well too?

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

Do you mainly use ProxMate for Proxmox operations, or also for daily monitoring/alerts? I’m especially looking for something that combines Proxmox, Synology DSM, Docker containers, and public checks in one iPhone view.

Your space looks huge, but the setup seems a little cluttered and could be better organized.

I'm a Proxmox VE + Synology DSM user who also runs quite a few Docker containers.

The web UI works fine on desktop, but the mobile experience (especially on iOS) is not great:

  • Browser-based Web UI is cumbersome on phone
  • Hard to quickly check Node/VM/LXC status, storage usage, CPU/memory trends, and container states

Question for the homelab community:

How do you usually monitor your Proxmox / Synology / Docker setup from iPhone?

Are there any good native iOS monitoring tools you recommend?

I'm currently trying OpsHome NOC and would love to hear your real experiences and suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

This looks amazing. Did you make it with a CNC machine? Are you planning to add an enclosure? I think it would look even better with one.
