Yeah, it's tricky. And to pay or donate anything I have to use visa, paypal or some other terrorist organisation, basically paying tax to Americans. The amount of control they have is unbelievable. At least in Brazil with their pix payment I hope to avoid it somehow, though that also have its issues with android and apple.

Yeah I know about BDS. I've been very careful with what I buy for some 20 years. I avoid American when possible and Israeli no matter what, even when there's no alternative.

If I had any hope that change could happen with the enablers I would focus on that. But you're fighting a multi trillion dollars war and propaganda machine. And an ocean of people who will choose the side that requires the least effort in their lives. So to me the best solution is just to try to run away. Like the Palestinians. The ones who fight are the heroes, but the ones who (can) run are the ones who might survive, no matter how unfair that is.

Thanks for the very detailed post. I thought a lot since I posted that and I think I'm going to try again to go to Brazil (I had issues last time because of legislation changes).

I checked the link and I'll donate to some, specially the ones working against israel, like APAN and ACIJ. While I would like to help Palestinians, I think it's much more important to stop the murderer, who will keep finding other victims, than helping the current ones. And with the help of scum like the ones in australia, that will keep happening.

One bonus thing; Do you have a list of international entities? Most of the ones you gave me are in Australia. I think it's more effective if my money doesn't stay in Australia to help. Otherwise part of it goes to help, and part to kill more.

But once I, or at least my money, leave australia I shouldn't have to feel guilty anymore anyway.

And yeah, there's some progress in the perception of israel. And what did it help? The fuckers control the media and everything. Same with the americans, with a literal mafia boss threatening his slaves and Australia still does whatever they tell. The money continues to flow like a river, unaffected. Against russia, china and other dislikes of the US there's all sort of boycotts, tariffs, blockades. But the ones controlling the game continue to do what they want, like they always did. There had been "perception change" many times before, like with PRISM, Sabra and Shattila, etc, and nothing changed. Quickly people forget and go back to worshipping their masters.

But if you have hope, that's good. That's the most sacred gift. One I wish I had.

To me both work and both won't work. It's just up to what you can deal with or clears your conscience.

If enough people left because of this, the problem would be solved, the dog would lose its teeth. If enough people fought the problem, the problem would also be solved.

The reality is; a ridiculous amount of the population will even consider they should be doing something. Not only they won't, but they will fuel the war machine, vote the vilains to power again and again, buy whatever propaganda they are sold that makes them feel without guilt and still enjoy a first world life built on the exploitation of weaker countries.

Even here, with more informed people we get people posting constant brainwash about scape goats (chinese, immigration, whatever bullshit they watch on tv).

If enough people cared the problem wouldn't even exist to begin with. How powerful is the military, big companies, etc, without slaves to serve them?

So, it's whatever makes you feel better. To me right now is trying to make sure I'm not helping the problem to get worse. I don't care if everyone else is evil and happier because of that. I can't convince anyone to change, so I just want to reduce my own guilt.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, a big bonus if you know; entities I can donate or invest on that are outside of Australia, and obviously israel and the US, or any of the 5 eyes if possible.

If my money stay on any of these countries, paying taxes and helping their economy, I'm just investing on murder anyway. If I don't have a choice than so be it, but if I have I do everything I can to make sure my money doesn't end on those hands.

That's why being here I'm part of the problem. I use money, and that money fuels the australian evil. If I could live here without using any money then I wouldn't feel guilty.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago

I didn't know who they are, but searching around it seems like the scum of Bondi don't like them, so they must be good people https://www.southasiatimes.com.au/australia/jao48/

It looks kind of dodgy though, since there's no link to official media, and no specific description of what the money is for.

Have you used that website? Is it generally trustworthy?

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago

Instagram is blocked on my devices, so I can't see the details. But from your description, I'm not sure why that's important. It must be to some people, but not me.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (7 children)

Who should I donate to? I sent you a private message ages ago about that. That's the biggest thing I can do, where my money goes to.

I don't want to do activism anymore. I did a lot before and that just affected me. I'm old enough to know that nothing will ever change, it never did. Things just change hands some times.

I've seen so many israeli and american invasions in my life. Each one of them made me think "this is it, the world won't accept this one". And in return we get more movies where the hero saves the world from the terrorists and the tickets sale grows new records again and again. And if you talk to any australian, they will tell you about those chinese, spying on you, killing everyone, they are going to invade next week and eat your dog! Or is it the comunists? The terrorists? The antichrist?

I admire those who still have hope, but I don't. I just don't want to be part of the problem. And right now, living here, I am. If the next bondi incident have me as one of the killed, I wouldn't find it unfair. But right now I can't leave, and although I try I can't ignore this shit I'm involved. So if I go to any protest or anything it's because I feel kind of forced. It won't change anything, I am still guilty like most australians, but it makes me pretend I'm doing something about it. I don't know...

Edit: I mean, do you remember Snowden? What activism can be bigger than someone giving clear proof to the whole world that the US is spying on everyone? I was in Brazil back then, there were leaked conversations of the president. I though that for sure the brazilian government, all those governments would do something about it. And nothing. And that's just one of many examples.

If something like that and the others can't fix anything, no amount of activism will. Not in a meaningful way. I doubt any murder was prevented.

And even some concrete action, like what the palestinians did that trying to counter attack, resulted in Gaza being completely destroyed. Or the actions of the Palestine group in UK, where now they will die of hunger in jail. And new laws are being in place there and here in response to show who's really in power.

Sorry for the long post. I'm just screaming at the clouds. This stuff frustrates me a lot.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm close to sunshine coast. But I'm not much of an activist anymore. It's just the american/israeli/military masturbation that is really hard to ignore.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (15 children)

I thought it would be soon. Shouldn't it be before he arrives?

Either way I might go to Brisbane on the day then. 3 hours from here but still...

I wish there was something practical I can do other than just leaving the country. Seeing how much Australia like to suck Israeli and American dicks make my blood boil... Living here I'm part of the problem. One of the supporters. One of American and Israelis dogs...

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago (17 children)

I doubt 7news will show time and places. Any link for that?

Fuck this cunt and all his supporters and their sob stories of fake victims.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 0 points 4 weeks ago

Yup. I used to to think that future generations would look at our car culture the way we look at slavery. Destroying the planet for profit, comfort and laziness. Then the battery revolution happened and if anything the laziness got even worse.

Even vehicles that used to be prohibitive are now used more then the better option, like electric scooters, bicycles, etc. I see a lot more electric bicycles on the road now than proper ones. And most of them teenagers, so that's not even the usual excuse of *it's replacing a car " because they can't drive, it just added more vehicles, just unlicensed ones.

But it makes people feel good with hypocrisy to pretend that they are doing something good, without really making any effort or sacrifice, except spending more money and consuming more.

It's our idea of making a difference. Consuming.

They don't have to drag us. Australia will volunteer to go kill foreigners to keep daddy happy. And then we can add another monument to the towns.

Lest we forget...

I hope it's ok to post on this community. It seems to be the most active. Skip to the summary at the end if you are in a hurry.

Every time the issue with google's dick move come up, I barely see any mention to Jolla/SailfishOS. Why is this not the Linux phone that we should be supporting?

I bought an Xperia way back in 2018 I think, and bought their community support and installed. It was usable. I ended up giving up on it because it was much worse than the ungoogled android alternative back then. The GPS took a long time to work, a lot of stuff was rough.

And some things were great surprises that comes with using a Linux phone. Syncthing android wouldn't install, but then I just installed the normal Linux Syncthing like normal and it worked perfectly!

But now with google killing F-droid and such, even a rough Sailfish will be a better option. I didn't stop using it because it was unusable, but because open source android was better. Open source android will die, and Sailfish must have gotten better by now.

So why isn't it an option? One thing I heard people complaining is that they are charging yearly for updates. Is this the problem?

People, even the very rich and evil microsoft gave up on investing in their windows phones. And those massive companies can only do so by profiting a lot from personal data. Any company will need a massive investment to be an option. Specially until it gains traction, with a small user base, it MUST be very expensive. And we, who want to see Linux working on phones, must invest on it. Otherwise any company trying it will go bankrupt.

There are few of us, it's a massive undertaking. Those of us who can must invest on it. Put our money where our mouth is. It's sad, but the world runs on money. Linux was successful because massive companies profited from it and needed it. If Linux relied solely on donations do you think an average person could use a Linux desktop today?

And then there are those saying "it's stupid to start from scratch". Jolla didn't start from scratch. They came from Nokia and have been building SailfishOS for more than 10 years. There's a lot of work already done to be ignored.

And on top of it, it's not an american company. So no PRISM and other things on it. Specially with the orange king, it's a massive plus to have software free from their system, unlike AOSP, which can just forbid their use by any country the orange king doesn't like.

So, why is it not an option? And those currently using it, what's your experience? Those who bought Xperia and installed on it, how did it go?

TL;DR: Sailfish wasn't ideal before, but with google's dick move, that will be better than not having open source apps.

A phone system will be very expensive and we must pay the entry price to support it, if that's the reason people don't like Jolla.

Jolla has been on the market for a while and already did a lot of work. SailfishOS is not something from scratch, if that's the reason.

Anyone using it currently, how has the experience been for you?

EDIT: I forgot to mention. Bank apps, Facebook stuff and other massive companies apps probably won't work on Linux, nor degoogled phones, and never will. They are allergic to freedom and if you need them, an alternative OS is not for you. Just like Adobe never worked on Linux and probably never will. It's not profitable enough. If that's what you need, just accept google decisions because you don't have a choice. This post is not for that audience.

I never paid attention to the newspapers, so I don’t know if it’s always like this.

All defending maximum murder or suffering (through genocide or global warming). What the hell is wrong with this country?

If these are the sources of information of a population it’s not hard to imagine the result. I am really hoping it’s just the rich playing with their toys (the newspapers) the way they like, but that it is not really effective in brainwashing the population. That they question what is fed to them.

Anyway, I just thought it amazing and to share my depression with more people. Maybe that’s just every day news and nothing unusual. I imagine it’s probably all owned by the same zionist or super villain or something.

Since the image can’t be read, the one on the left says that if Australia doesn’t support the international court on netanyahuhaha the country becomes terrorist. The second is the typical “people are not supporting my genocide, I’m being holocausted”. The third is asking for harsher punishment for those “fools” destroying the economy and wasting people’s time with imaginary environment issues that could lead to human extinction.

edit. I posted to lemmy.world by mistake. Lemmy is so confusing... edit2. Is the image showing? It didn't show the first try.

That's the question. I am not very social so I never really talk to other people in their vans, but I get curious about their experience. Here being anonymous seems ok to ask.

I live in one, in case it's not clear. I know there's a lot of people who do the same so maybe there's someone here. Probably not but it's worth a try. There used to be a van dwellers community on reddit, but mostly americans and instagram people.

Final edit: Sorry guys, this got out of hand as I feared and it would take too long to answer everything properly and it would just offend more people.

I got some nice tips for finding places and learned more about Australian's views on the subject. I should have been more careful with what I said. It changed my opinion somewhat but people here would still not like it, so I'll keep it to myself.

Thanks for the very civilized and nice answers and I'm sorry if I didn't answer. I would like to, but in private, or this could become a witch hunt. I do not wish to offend anyone or be attacked because of that. As someone commented, I am the problem here.

Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking for a long time and decided to try to ask something I can’t find out.

First, please be tolerant about the question. I am an Australian citizen, but from a foreign background, so cultural things that seem sacred and unquestionable here are not the same to me. I wouldn’t be crazy to post this on reddit (though I deleted my account ages ago) because I know all the posts would just be attacking me (if you don’t like it, leave, are you defending terrorists?, and so on), instead of helpful comments. Hopefully it will be different here.

The question is: is there any Australian town free from military worship? I mean monuments everywhere, pools and parks named after it and so on. Somewhere I can forget and pretend that this is not how the rest of Australia is.

I’ve been traveling around trying to find a place I would like to settle. I found many small towns I liked, but it seems that the smaller the town, the higher the military worship. They may not even have a public toilet, but they will have a military worship statue that seemed to have cost more than all the town to build.

I love Australia, specially the outback, but the military worship issue is so big that makes me think of looking for another country. I know my taxes are being used to send people to kill whoever the US doesn’t like, and the country prides itself with this history. But if I can ignore that, I can pretend to myself that it’s not true and live happy. I tried to fight the issue for a long time but it makes no difference except to me, sacrificing my well being for nothing. But if I keep being reminded every time I go to do groceries trough the park “invasion of foreign country divine pride park”, it will be impossible. I already try to avoid news and ABC, so it should be possible.

I’m sending a picture of some of the places I’ve been to, without much luck. Funny enough, the town I liked the most, Roma, is the worst, with military trees every 10 meters.

Anyway, that’s it. Maybe I’ll get downvoted to oblivion, but let’s try…

By the way, I don’t know if I am posting this correctly, on the right place and everything. It’s my first lemmy post as well. It's very confusing to know the community to post. It shows everything everwhere!

Edit- I posted this before, thought it was in the wrong place, deleted and posted again. Now I see 2 of the posts and the deleted one has 2 upvotes. This is so confusing...

Edit2 - Before I get any comment, I dislike military worship from any country, not just Australia. Military may or not be necessary in modern societies, but worship and praise should never be acceptable and is specially dangerous when applied to a group with power. Citizens should always be skeptical of their military group, its uses, powers and permissions. It should be like owning a gun. You may be allowed to have one but should be constantly proving you are not doing anything wrong with it. The definition of what is "wrong" or "right" should be constantly questioned as well.

Edit3 - just a reminder, that I do not wish to change anyone's point of view. It's your tradition and culture and I respect, but I don't have to like it and I would like to figure out how to avoid it. It is all. I would like to stop Australian involvment in American wars, but besides that I don't mind if Australians like military or not, but I would like to avoid being exposed to that, assuming that is possible, which is the reason for the post, so I can find out.
