  1. Yes, android is technically Linux
  2. There are forks (Graphene, e, etc) but none approach the popularity of traditional Android so you’ll never find them on phones sold by major retailers/carriers
  3. Theres not a huge market (or rather, it’s not a huge moneymaker) to develop an android fork that focuses on things like privacy and security. There’s a reason phones come preloaded with Facebook and Candy Crush.

Well fuck. It never crossed my mind that YouTube would do this since I don’t view it the same as other traditional streaming services. This will really suck for my friends who I’ve happily let mooch off my plan for years.

One PC community, which I’m pretty sure died because I haven’t noticed any content from it in a few months, was using a bot to copy posts from Reddit but it made no sense because 50% of the posts were asking for tech support. Every post had 0 replies because, obviously, who would waste time replying when the OP who needed answers was on a different platform entirely.

[July 2025] Updates to YouTube Partner Program (YPP) Monetization policies: In order to monetize as part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube has always required creators to upload “original” and "authentic" content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube is updating our guidelines to better identify mass-produced and repetitious content. This update better reflects what “inauthentic” content looks like today.

So essentially, if you’re going to have a channel of AI garbage, Google wants to ensure you to use their tools to make it.

Because you’ve still got people who go onto Google when they need a calculator

Because we all know these good-natured corporations will bear the brunt of this in order to keep prices the same for US consumers.

Actually, aren’t you forgetting that Trump said the foreign countries will be the ones paying these tariffs? Take care not to step out of line with the regime.

Lemmy hates Meta but honestly the Quest 3 is a fantastic headset. I use mine semi-regularly for wireless Steam VR.
