I find it to basically be exactly the same, but almost no setup. No filling a pot/container with water, putting the stick heater in, ziplocking or vacuum sealing the meat, then waiting an hour+ for it to hit temperature.

Toss the steaks on a tray, preheat toaster oven in 5 min to 225f, prep and cook the rest of the meal and the sear off the steaks after 20min. Easy as fuck.

Try the reverse sear method instead. You get sous vise like results with no plastic, no water bath, just an oven and a pan.

I use my toaster oven to do the precook while searing off vegetables in my pan or baking in the larger oven, then get the pan wicked hot and sear the steak. Fast, excellent mutlitasking. Works well for pork chops too.

homonyms are words that sound the same but have different meanings. Their/there/they're are classic examples.

Barnes and Noble is on a hard upswing recently, and are expanding., mainly by allowing local stores to stock what sells in their areas.

Still, buy from bookshop.org if you can. Its a coalition of thousands of small bookshops where the vast majority of profits from purchases flow right back to them instead of megacorps.

This was shown before the sentencing. The judge referenced it explicitly in their sentencing as a reason to apply leniency.

From a comment above:

Here's what the judge had to say:

“I loved that AI, and thank you for that. As angry as you are, and as justifiably angry as the family is, I heard the forgiveness, and I know Mr. Horcasitas could appreciate it, but so did I,” Lang said immediately before sentencing Horcasitas. “I love the beauty in what Christopher, and I call him Christopher—I always call people by their last names, it’s a formality of the court—but I feel like calling him Christopher as we’ve gotten to know him today. I feel that that was genuine, because obviously the forgiveness of Mr. Horcasitas reflects the character I heard about today. But it also says something about the family, because you told me how angry you were, and you demanded the maximum sentence. And even though that’s what you wanted, you allowed Chris to speak from his heart as you saw it. I didn’t hear him asking for the maximum sentence.”

Of course. Look at the "network state" concept that the alt right tech bros love.

Tiny nation states ruled by the elites, where laws and rights are set not by a wide ranging view of human rights, but by those in power. One of your only rights is the ability to leave. To where? Who knows, and surely nit with all your valuables going with you. No voting, not basic dignity, nothing else if the techo kings dont want to provide it. Corpo kings, contract as the only law.

The end state of the above and fascism is the same. A ruling class that sets the rules, and a citizenry that has to abide by them, or else.

Is it literal fascism? Who knows. Are you under the boot of a privileged class, at the full mercy of their whims just like monarchy or fascism? Yes indeed.

Looking at the trees brings most of the relief, so I expect even those are just as calming as long as you don't touch them and don't know what they are.

Dont worry. Most of those will burn down, leaving plenty of room for houses to be built to the new requirements.

Best case is enough houses get built to this standard and intermixed into those neighborhoods to give a type of "herd immunity" from fires moving house to house. Hell, even a good bulwark of these in a line facing the forest might do it.

Trees are also essential for insects, bird and animal life in cities. They are psychologically calming for people as well.
