I'm not sure Modi would feel so happy if we were to walk around hand in hand with Xi if China was invading India or whoever the leader is of Pakistan while they were suicide bombing India
It wouldn't be anything new, US had been doing it since India's independence. Even now it is continuing it's bon homie with Pakistan because India didn't stroke Trump's ego.
Having said that though, I disagree with the direction the government is taking. India nonetheless does have very consequential strategic millitary relationship with both Russia and Israel. Developed during cold war and continuing to this day.

Imho surveillance state will grow even more rapidly with democrats, just not overtly. They will make a stronger big brother which the republicans will use to promote fascism.
