Could you give some examples of AI handling complexity? From what I've read from senior developers is that the more scope AI has to chew on the more mistakes it makes. In terms of complexity I'm not talking about algorithms, differential calculus, or mind breaking recursion. I'm talking about the usual hodgepodge of monolithic microservices too many "Were a tech company that does X" companies have built over the past decade that are layered on top of software built before I was born.

Maybe I'm just creating too complex and specific use case, but my time as a software developer had me working through problems like that.

I can't remember where I heard this or of it is true, but apparently it would have cost significantly more money to deceive the public with a fake moon landing than it would have been to fund the mission. When I think about the effort they would have put behind this ruse it makes sense as I'm sure the media was all over the event and the fakery wouldn't have been isolated to a single broadcast.

One of my favorite quotes is "The only way three people can keep a secret is if two of them are dead", from some random western movie, but yes people love to blab.

Exactly, the system we live in undermines communities, this is just another example.

A fun game to play is watching any tech talk even remotely about UX and replacing the words engagement or retention with addiction. The best category for this would be the 2010's smart phone app design talks.

I'm curious what tasks are you using GitHub Copilot for? I left the industry before AI got huge so I was never pressured to use the tools.

AI can handle boilerplate and any coding project that has been done ad nauseam. AI can't handle legacy system quirks, creative problem solving, or massive projects with changing requirements. I don't think the AI bubble will be around long enough for them to solve these shortcomings or the issues of expanding scope and scale leading to hallucinations.

To me AI is just impressive enough to convince managers and inexperienced developers it is the future. I'll believe that when a Fortune 500 company rebuilds their whole entire tech stack via AI, and I think AI could solve climate change before it could do that haha.

I think about the issues with modern dating often, flirting included. One of my perspectives is dating culture is an extension of social culture which is an extension of communal culture, and unfortunately communal culture is dying in America. From something as common as college kids getting educated out of state then starting their career at a 3rd location, to something more systemic like the formation of the rust belt, local communities have been eroding.

Without an established generational history of people talking, connecting, enjoying each other, flirting, and dating no one can really know the difference between expressing interest and harassment as that difference now depends on what your algorithm says and what your echo chambers reinforce.

In short everyone is playing by a different set of social rules, video games may play a part in this via social isolation, but I think the greater socioeconomic system we're all bound to is much more culpable.
