When I lived in Germany I found that the people were far more self-policing than Americans. There just seemed to be a general attitude of, "we know we're not supposed to do that, so we don't."
Fully anecdotal, sure, and that was 15 years ago, but nonetheless it's hard for me to imagine "ze Germans" tampering with odometers to sell cars.

Isn't it crazy that we learned the way to bypass nature's ambivalence and wildly exceeded its ability to control us through incredible feats of cooperation, yet we fall back into the same old atavistic selfishness and greed and laud it as "survival of the fittest"?
I promise I'm not completely stupid, but the first time I saw an ad I went looking for ways to never see them again and came up with nothing. I'll look again, though!
I pay for Nitro yearly to the tune of $15 a month and the ads cannot be disabled, only hidden after they come up.
So yeah, I've cancelled my subscription, this is only going to get worse, especially once they're completely beholden to shareholders.

That's part of the problem, many who have fallen into this pattern have been groomed to think Option 2 from the time they were born. This is unironically what they earnestly believe. But I'm pretty sure the insidious marriage of religion, wealth, and politics was the plan ever since the L they took during Watergate.
