What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

I see this come up a lot in discussions about voting in America. Postal votes disproportionately go to Democrats, hence the Democrats want to expand postal voting while Republicans want to restrict it (and insist there is totally a bunch of fraud going on).

I've googled with a few search engines and haven't found a convincing reason. Lots of evidence that the skew is real, but no explanation as to why. Indeed, if one just looks at demographics, one would expect postal voting to benefit Republicans by facilitating votes from people in the countryside who live far away from voting centers.

So what actually gives?

I’m looking for storage classes for a multi node cluster. I’m currently using Longhorn and NFS, but I'm not happy with the performance. My cluster doesn’t have beefy nodes, so Ceph/Rook is out of the question (for now).

Nodes:

  1. 8 GB RAM, 4 cores VM, control plane. 256 GB SSD
  2. 4 GB RAM, 2 cores, control plane, currently cordoned. 128 GB SSD
  3. 8 GB RAM, 4 cores, ARM, control plane. 512 GB SSD
  4. 8 GB RAM, 4 cores. 256 GB SSD
  5. 16 GB RAM, 6 cores. 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HD
  6. RPi 4, 4 GB RAM. 128 GB SSD

Stable Video Infinity: Infinite-Length Video Generation with Error Recycling.

Links

Today, anyone can create realistic images in just a few clicks with the help of AI. Generating videos, however, is a much more complicated task. Existing AI models are only capable of producing videos that work for less than 30 seconds before degrading into randomness with incoherent shapes, colors and logic. The problem is called drift, and computer scientists have been working on it for years.

At EPFL, researchers at the Visual Intelligence for Transportation (VITA) Laboratory have taken a novel approach – working with the errors instead of circumventing or ignoring them – and developed a video-generation method that essentially eliminates drift. Their method is based on recycling errors back into the AI model so that it learns from its own mistakes.

I am running a defederated local Matrix server, and I need to set up calls. From what I can tell, the "legacy" calls require a STUN and TURN server, and the new MatrixRTC standard seems to require them as well for Livekit to work. However, I do not want to expose anything out to the public internet, as I want everything to be behind NAT for local access only (all of the clients for the server will also be behind the NATted network). I also have Tailscale running on my servers, and it would be useful if I would be able to connect to the TURN server even when not in the network. Is there a way to get STUN/TURN to work in this situation? It seems that all the servers expect to have public network access.

While looking for Discord alternatives I came across this project which looks like a great alternative for the kinds of Discord servers centered around Open Source projects and organizations. Ones where live chat and voice rooms aren't the focus.

It's a combination of forums and knowledge base that would be perfect for this use case.

Defence Minister David McGuinty says Canada has now officially joined the European Union’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program, which offers loans to member states to invest in defence capabilities.

"The agreement strengthens our collective security, supports the development of key defence capabilities, and gives Canadian industry access to European defence markets while contributing to European and Ukrainian security," McGuinty said in a statement sent to CBC News.

We're excited to announce a major update: the Jellyseerr and Overseerr teams are officially merging into a single team called Seerr. This unification marks an important step forward as we bring our efforts together under one banner.

For users, this means one shared codebase combining all existing Overseerr functionalities with the latest Jellyseerr features, along with Jellyfin and Emby support, allowing us to deliver updates more efficiently and keep the project moving forward.

Please check how to migrate to Seerr in our migration guide and stay tuned for more updates on the project!

The last anime I actually really liked was Cowboy Bebop. I try getting into it off and on but I'm kind of put off by the common tropes. That said, my d&d characters for the past 20 years have been some variation of "that's an awful lot of hydra meat that's going to waste if I don't cook it" which I understand is the premise of the show.

Is it worth giving it a try? Am I going to have to sit through an unreasonable amount of jiggling tits?
