Put plainly, Israel is aligning itself with an authoritarian wave sweeping Europe to legitimise its policies of genocidal warfare and democratic erosion, while Europe’s far right increasingly becomes normalised and mainstream.

We are finally talking about this now eh? I lost a cousin over 12 years ago, vanished into thin air. Nobody cared. Especially the RCMP. Much like all these guys. A few posters and a lazy facebook post was all my beloved cousin ever got.

My favourite part of the article is this:

National statistics reflect a severe and often overlooked reality regarding violence against Indigenous men:

Between 1980 and 2012, Statistics Canada documented 1,750 Indigenous male homicide victims, compared to 745 Indigenous female homicide victims.

In this timeframe, 71% of all murdered and missing Indigenous people were men and boys.

According to 2020 Statistics Canada data, Indigenous men are seven times more likely to die by homicide than non-Indigenous people, and four times more likely than Indigenous women.

We hear so much about missing indigenous women. I had no idea the stat for men was 4 times higher. Why doesn't anyone care?

There is almost certainly an active serial killer operating on the mid island for years now, and I hear random people saying this more and more. Sadly we are on our own over here it seems.

For those not familiar with Andre Antunes, he is a multi-instrumentalist musician who makes music out of various bits of videos and turns them into complete works, usually heavy metal, and here he's taken Sgt. McGinnis' video and turned it into an anthem in support of the message. Epic.

The bit at the end -- where Antunes is rolling his eyes and walks away -- is someone playing a shofar.

(And yes, Antunes is the same musician who did that banger with Kenneth Copeland ranting about covid, lol.)

If you like SOAD, and you support Sgt. McGinnis' protest, don't miss this two minute tribute.

Donald Trump said Thursday that Mojtaba was "unacceptable," and Israel has vowed to target any declared successor to Khamenei.

A statement from the Assembly of Experts — the panel of Shiite clerics responsible under Iranian law for choosing the country’s top leader — said Mojtaba Khamenei had been selected as the third leader of the Islamic Republic, according to reports from IRIB state TV and the Fars, Tasnim and ISNA news agencies.

President Donald Trump told Axios last week the choice would be "unacceptable" and suggested he wanted to hand-pick a new supreme leader, a process usually overseen by Iran's clerics.

“They are wasting their time. Khamenei's son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment," he said. "Khamenei's son is unacceptable to me."

Pressed about whether Iran is receiving Russian support, Abbas Araghchi told NBC News' "Meet the Press" that "they are helping us in many different directions."

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected calls for a ceasefire in the Middle East, telling NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that his country needs “to continue fighting for the sake of our people.”

The U.S. and Israel “are killing our people, they are killing girl students, you know, they are attacking hospitals,” he told moderator Kristen Welker.

He said Israel and the U.S. had already shattered the ceasefire reached to end last year’s 12-day war, adding, “And now you want to ask for a ceasefire again? This doesn’t work like this.”

On Friday, four sources told NBC News that Russia was providing intelligence to Iran on the location of U.S. forces in the Middle East, including intelligence that could help Iran locate American warships.

The explosion caused ‘minor damage,’ a Norwegian police commander said

An explosion on Sunday outside the U.S. embassy in Oslo, Norway, may be linked to the ongoing Middle East security situation, police have said said.

As of Sunday afternoon, no suspects had been identified, Norwegian police added.

"It's natural to see this in the context of the current security situation and that this could be an attack deliberately targeting the U.S. embassy," police spokesperson Frode Larsen told a news conference.

A “loud” explosion occurred at the entrance to the U.S. embassy in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The clerical body tasked with selecting the next supreme leader has reached a decision but the name hasn’t been announced, Iranian media reported.

Israel threatened to target anyone who succeeds or seeks to appoint a successor to Iran’s deceased Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Israeli military issued the warning in a social media post in Farsi on X, as the clerical body in charge of picking the new Iranian leader reportedly reached a decision on Sunday.

“We warn all those who intend to participate in the successor selection meeting that we will not hesitate to target you. This is a warning!” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in the post.

The many similarities between the White House’s justification for war in Iran and Russia’s messaging on Ukraine underscore the risks of a vaguely defined, open-ended war.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said last Monday that the United States “didn’t start this war, but under President Trump, we are finishing it.”

After he invaded Ukraine in 2022, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia put it this way: “We didn’t start the so-called war in Ukraine. Rather, we are trying to finish it.”

Mr. Putin’s war was a disastrous ground invasion of a fledgling democracy. Mr. Trump’s war on Iran is a sophisticated bombing campaign against an aggressive theocracy that was killing its own people in the streets. But some similarities are uncanny, starting with the White House and the Kremlin both trying to avoid calling their actions acts of war.

. . .

Shifting objectives, an exaggerated threat, an ambiguous mission: The many Russian echoes in the White House’s messaging on Iran underscore the risks of a vaguely defined, open-ended war in which the attacking party pins its hopes on regime change.

Residents report terror of smoke-filled city, from potentially toxic rain, air and water to food scarcity and difficulty of escape

Thick black smoke was still rising in the sky, soot covered the streets and cars, balconies filled with black gunk, and the toxic air had filled the lungs as Tehran woke up after a night of airstrikes on the city’s oil depots on Sunday.

In messages and voice notes sent to the Guardian, people described the situation in their homes and on the streets, some calling it “apocalyptic”. With the sun blotted out, disoriented people in Iran’s capital had to turn on their lights to see through the gloom.

Four oil depots and a petroleum logistics site in and around Tehran were hit. Local authorities said six people were killed and 20 wounded at one of the sites.

Videos shared by citizen journalists showed massive flames over the Tehran sky overnight and smoke still billowing over the oil storage facilities. As rain poured down on the city of 10 million people on Sunday morning, authorities warned of toxic acid rain and many residents woke up with pain in their throat and eyes burning.

President Trump on Sunday threatened to not sign any bills into law until the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act is approved by the Senate, doubling down on his push to change voting requirements ahead of the midterm elections.

“I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY – ILLNESS, DISABILITY…,” the president wrote in his Sunday morning Truth Social post.

If the president doesn't sign a bill, it becomes law in 10 days. Sundays don't count, and if congress adjourns during the period, it counts as a veto.
