My Nextcloud instance broke again-again a month ago where the iOS app could not connect anymore… No helpful error code or message. I have never really been satisfied with their products, it always seemed slow and buggy and they have thousands of open issues on their repos. I used it for photos, online file storage/sharing and for messaging / video chat. I have now replaced it with Owncloud + Immich + Signal (not self hosted) and i’m very satisfied. Owncloud is just way snappier and no bugs so far. Docs are ok, though a little hard to search in and you constantly have to be aware, that the docs might only be relevant for their prior php-implementation. I followed this guide:

Australia's defence force operations to protect its sea trade routes, including through the South China Sea, are becoming more risky as Beijing undertakes the "biggest military build-up in the world today", Australia's defence minister said on Tuesday.

Open sea lanes, including trade routes that go through the South China Sea and East China Sea, are at the core of Australia's national interest, Richard Marles said in an opening speech at a navy conference in Sydney.

This included acquiring frigates from Japan, developing submarine drones with U.S. company Anduril, and expanding its naval shipyards facing the Indian Ocean.

Australia raised concerns with Beijing last month after a Chinese fighter jet dropped flares near an Australian maritime patrol plane carrying out surveillance in the South China Sea, the latest in a series of such incidents that Australia has labelled "unsafe and unprofessional".

Dozens of navy and coast guard chiefs, including from the United States, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore and Pacific Islands, are attending the conference in Sydney, which comes as Australia prepares to build a nuclear-powered submarine fleet with the U.S. and Britain through the AUKUS partnership.

A mother whose three-year-old girl's hair was ripped out by an electric cleaning brush says the internet giant Temu "does not care about the safety of people".

Amy, 36, from Norwich, bought the brush online for £4 to "make life easier" with housework, but it caught in her daughter's hair when the child took it out of the box.

She reported the item as it appeared on the shopping site to Norfolk Trading Standards, who said Temu had now removed it from sale in the UK.

A spokesperson for the Chinese-owned site told the BBC: "We are deeply concerned to hear about this incident and wish the child a full and speedy recovery."

They added: "The safety and wellbeing of our customers are always our top priority, and our customer service team is in contact with the family to offer assistance."

La France détient un triste record européen d'accidents mortels au travail

Italy is known for its high-end fashion, the home of global brands including Gucci and Prada, and the industry makes up around five percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

But cheap and cheerful clothes are as popular in Italy as the rest of Europe, including bought through Shein's ultra-competitive platform.

...

Adolfo Urso, the minister for the "Made in Italy" brand, warned of "an "invasion of low-cost foreign products that harm our producers and put consumers at risk."

...

At the European Union level, the industry wants an end to the exemption from customs duties for packages worth under 150 euros ($173), following a similar charge in the US.

Critics warn of the environmental impact of clothes so cheap they can be worn once and thrown away, while Shein has also come under scrutiny for conditions at its textile factories.

This week, Italy's government brought into law a European Union directive that seeks to improve transparency in sales, particularly on the environmental impact of products. Shein has already been sanctioned in this area in Italy and France.

The French government has said it was suspending the platform after outrage over its sale of childlike sex dolls. At the same time, nearly 8,000 people queued for the opening of Shein's first permanent store, located in Paris's BHV department store.

In style-conscious Milan, the platform is also hugely popular. "In Milan, you can't go out if you're not stylish," Mattia Trebino told AFP at Shein's fashion show last month.

The 24-year-old, who wore a faux-crocodile skin jacket, said he receives about four Shein packages every month. "These clothes, you can only wear them once or twice at most. But they're really cheap," he said.

Shein's autumn/winter collection was inspired in part by 1980s Milan, featuring three-piece-suits and faux fur coats.

"The idea was to show that everyone can find their style at Shein- and to respond to our critics," Luca Raveillon, the show's French artistic director, told AFP. Gesturing to the collections, he said: "Look, it's beautiful. It's good quality, it fits perfectly. "We look great in it, and we can express ourselves with what we wear"- while keeping costs low, as "life is getting expensive".

Alessia Tresoldi, a 27-year-old Italian influencer sat in the front row, shared images of the show with her one million Instagram followers. Shein "looks at what's happening on the street", she told AFP, and described the show as "amazing".

The website offers a 100% polyester 'fur' coat from the show in 15 different colours, starting at 28 euros with free shipping. Boosted by such low prices, European consumers buy 60% more clothing than they did in 2000, and keep it for half as long, according to an October report by consultants The European House-Ambrosetti.

The study's author, Carlo Cici, said the European fashion industry must innovate more to stand out. "Consumers are very interested in sustainability but aren't willing to pay for it," he wrote.

Taiwan’s deputy leader urged the European Union to boost security and trade ties with the self-governing island and support its democracy in the face of growing threats by China, in a rare address to a group of international lawmakers in Brussels on Friday.

“Peace in the Taiwan Strait is essential to global stability and economic continuity, and international opposition against unilateral changes to the status quo by force cannot be overstated,” Vice President Bi-Khim Hsiao told lawmakers assembled for a China-focused conference in the European Parliament building.

While Hsiao did not formally address the whole EU Parliament — the European trade bloc does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan — her visit drew ire from China.

“In an era marked by increasing fragmentation, volatility and rising authoritarianism, this gathering affirms something vital — that democracies, even when far apart, are not alone,” she added to a standing ovation in a small chamber of the European Parliament.

Hsiao also called on the lawmakers from countries including Germany and Spain to collaborate more on trusted supply chains and AI technology with Taiwan, the island off China’s east coast that Beijing claims as part of its territory and says must come under its rule.
