Concerns over AI surveillance in schools are intensifying after armed officers swarmed a 16-year-old student outside Kenwood High School in Baltimore when an AI gun detection system falsely flagged a Doritos bag as a firearm.

Allen was handcuffed at gunpoint. Police later showed him the AI-captured image that triggered the alert. The crumpled Doritos bag in his pocket had been mistaken for a gun.

I have some services set up which i make available with tailscale and a domain name outside my lan. Inside my home network i set up adguard dns rewrites to use the same domain for devices which are not on my tailnet. I disabled dns rebind protection in my fritzbox for these domains.

Now my problem: I don't leave my phone connected to tailscale all of the time because of high battery drain. Inside of my wifi the phone should still be able to access my services using the domain, but it is only able some of the time. My work laptop (not on my tailnet) is able to access the services.

Is the dns cached somehow in android? Is the private dns setting of android overwriting the dns i configured in my router? Where else could the problem lie? Any hints are appreciated :)

The software is labelled Beta, but is being pushed out to existing PCs anyway because.. well.. why not beta something in prod, it’s 2025 after all.

It appears in Game Bar, which is accessible from Windows Key + G. You may not have it yet as they are staging deployment. I’m not in Windows Insiders, but I have it installed — so it looks like the roll out is becoming wide. Note that I had uninstalled Copilot from my PC… but Gaming Copilot silently installed anyway.

It is similar to Recall, except not all the processing is done locally — it relies on the cloud. It screenshots gameplay, and then extracts elements of the screen (such as symbols and text) to work out what the player is doing. The idea is it can help you game, e.g. you can ask questions about what you’re doing in the game at a given moment.

TiVo’s simple magic changed TV forever—now the iconic DVR is fading into history.

It's the second such lawsuit from Reddit since it sued another major AI company, Anthropic, in June.

But the lawsuit filed Wednesday is different in the way that it confronts not just an AI company but the lesser-known services the AI industry relies on to acquire online writings needed to train AI chatbots.

“Scrapers bypass technological protections to steal data, then sell it to clients hungry for training material. Reddit is a prime target because it’s one of the largest and most dynamic collections of human conversation ever created,” said Ben Lee, Reddit’s chief legal officer, in a statement Wednesday.
