What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

Each week I create a 2-2.5 hour block of programming for the family to watch together over a nice breakfast. We call it Sunday Brunch Cartoons, and we're nearly two years into it without missing a day. I'm releasing a full list of our watch queue, with the hopes that you can think of something really good (or memorably bad) that we should include.

No 70s Hanna-Barbera.

EDIT: Thanks, Lemmy!!! You've all delivered so many really exciting suggestions. There's enough on my 'shopping list' now to keep us going, well, basically forever - but what's another 10Tb of cartoons among friends?

Here's the full list of suggestions I've collected. In alphabetic order, this time. Thanks again!

Now we can't really know whether or not it was because time travel isn't real or if no one from the future wants to make history by meeting with a pedophile.

Elon Musk has been summoned to Paris, where investigators are looking into allegations of misconduct related to the social media platform X, including the spread of child sexual abuse material and deepfake content.

The world’s richest man and Linda Yaccarino – the former chief executive of X – were on Monday summoned for “voluntary interviews”, while other employees of the platform were scheduled to be heard as witnesses throughout this week, the Paris prosecutor’s office said.

It remains unclear whether Musk and Yaccarino will travel to Paris. A spokesperson for X did not respond to questions from Associated Press and Yaccarino’s current company, eMed, did not answer a request sent to the press email.

EASY WAY TO REMEMBER HOW TO USE YOUR SCREWDRIVER

[a screwdriver is unscrewing a screw by turning counter-clockwise]
The LEFT liberates the screw from its oppression

[a screwdriver is screwing a screw by turning clockwise]
The RIGHT tightens the screw's place in the social order imposed to it

As I noticed, after reading 2-8 thousand words a day, after a few days of reading like this, it becomes very difficult for me to read, and I started reading actively lately, before that I only watched TV shows and movies, and now I have a slight headache, the text is floating, I even confuse words. In fact, that's why I used to read very little, and now I'm so tired of TV shows and movies that I'm willing to force myself to read, even if I have a headache, to become emotionally attached to books instead of just consuming like zombie like I used to.

This is Alana Rosa, a 20-year-old Brazilian woman who was brutally attacked and stabbed 40 times for refusing to go out with the sexist criminal Luis Felipe Sampaio, whom she met at the gym.

After emerging from an induced coma, misogynists in Brazil are making TikTok videos of themselves stabbing mannequins with titles like "What to do when she says no."

This is the patriarchal and misogynistic society that capitalism fosters; this sexist terrorism is fueled by the system itself, just like racism and xenophobia.

Wolves, bears and lynx have rebounded in the radioactive landscape, along with a rare breed of horses native to Mongolia. Scientists say it shows nature’s ability to recover when human activity is removed.

A "classic trolley problem," according to Grok.

In fact, Grok was willing to go even further.
Asked for an “upper limit” for the amount of people it’d be willing to sacrifice to save Musk, it explained that because “Elon’s potential to advance humanity could benefit billions,” it would be okay with annihilating up to “~50 percent of Earth’s ~8.26B population.”

It just kinda makes no sense to me. How can you improve the framerate by predicting how the next frame should be rendered while reducing the overhead and not increasing it more than what it already takes to render the scene normally? Like even the simplistic concept of it sounds like pure magic. And yet... It's real.
