Are there any alternatives to WordPress that play nice with TOR/TAILS? WordPress is difficult to use with its complicated block editor.

I recently got offered a job (or not quite yet, but in the process) for a European digital forensics and e-discovery company. The position sounds really fun and exciting and really what I am looking for, but I don't know if I can reconcile it with my privacy concerns and my moral concerns that we are turning further and further into a surveillance state.

And many more similar tools. Do you think I am overreacting? Would you ever consider working for a company like that? It almost feels like a European version of Palantir. When remarking my concerns in the interview, the interviewer was very surprised about that question (which in turn really surprised me...). The "justification" he gave me, to reassure me, did not do a good job either:

• 95% of their customers are state actors, i.e. national police departmenty. As I said, it's not the US, so my image of our police is not quite as bad, but still it's not like I view government agencies , justice system, or the police as the "ultimate good guys" that I trust with everything.
• "Things like unlocking and searching through some evidence like a phone is not surveillance, since it is not live" - maybe I misunderstood something there because to me that argument makes zero sense

I'm a little torn, because I believe that digital forensics is obviously a very important tool for solving crimes and is clearly already part of reality. But building such powerful tools with access to so many sources of data requires an amount of trust that I currently cannot say I have into any entity really. And that's ignoring all the AI that all these tools use internally too.

Sorry for the rant, I am just curious what this community thinks about this industry? Even though I can already guess 😉 I'm just having a hard time rejecting a potentially really good job offer.

So, the EU Digital ID is threatening to kill alt Android and Linux phones, but this is also probably gonna screw over desktops too, because going by how it's laid out by Mental Outlaw here, desktops could start being required to run Win11 with Pluton enforcement to comply with this, which would not only lock out Linux and BSD desktops, but also older desktops in general which can't run Win11, and even older desktops which can run Win11 but are too old to support Pluton, meaning just like you have to buy a new Google or Apple phone to comply with this, you'd also have to buy a new Win11 desktop or laptop as well.

I'm trying to use signal on two profiles of my grapheneos phone. I'm already aware signal only allows one device per account, so I've been trying to use the Molly fork, which allows me to connect as a linked device. However, when I switch profiles and try to link it just doesn't work. Does anyone have any solutions? This is really important to me.

EDIT: for anyone interested this is the only possible solution without rooting. Since grapheneos resets your internet after every profile switch it's not possible to do this with internet. You must have a sim card with cell data. Once you toggle off your wifi and vpn, the whole process should work fine. (You still need another device to take a photo of the qr code with). Also the qr code expires so be quick. Also official signal app doesn't seem to work, so I would use Molly.

Hubzilla version 11.4 was released recently, now has a new docker image built and should be ready for use.

On a technical note, if your setup involves connection pooling regarding your database, you will need to set system.pdo_emulate_prepares to true within your htconfig.php. The 11.4 release of the docker image, has the appropriate line in the htconfig.php commented out, for your convenience; naturally if you edit your htconfig in other ways (CLI, etc) that will still work, as well. Whichever way you choose to deploy your instance, you have options available to you.

i use my familys google drive/photo thing (i cant really change) and i obviously want us to switch, but my mom (who take care of this whole thing) says that she likes the ecosystem that google has. Like she uses her calendar and stuff. The closest ive found is proton, which is fine, but it doesnt really have the best rep. Any alternatives?

BTW: im not gonna self-host since im not comfortable hosting such a big thing like this

Hi, I've been using the DDG browser and search on and off for a bit. Specifically trying to contain more controversial stuff like politics into it. .

I just searched on the DDG browser with the DDG search, "2026 midterm primary results" hoping to find the 5 states that had primaries last night. The top horizontal scrolling results were all Michigan. Then the fucking AI bot that I thought I turned off. Then finally the real results...except the real results were 100% local to my state. My states primaries were months ago. There is no rewsonvehy my search should have yielded anything local to my state, and certainly not the entire first page.

Can someone shed a light onto why it would have done this? It feels invasive, at least with Google I can pretend that they know my location because I told them. But DDG? Nah, shits weird.

Hey dear smart community, I don't use any Google products or services over 3 years now. Always had android and used fdroid. No apps for banking ( cash lover). Osmand for maps. Extremely happy to find this app for socializing with like minded people. Now I feel time has come to upgrade privacy and security and custom ROM phone. I am considering if getting pixel8 and installing GOS. The only issue is,that I have 0 (ZERO) knowledge about how to do it. I have looked many videos and read on websites how to do it,but I am so afraid that I will not be able. I don't know if that is right to ask for assistance from people here,but I don't feel like I am capable of doing so. Plus,I have samsung which I would like to prepare and give my friend to use. Unfortunately, that person in immersed to Google world ( internet banking apps ect). Do you think LineageOS could give more protection and same smooth usage of phone ? The story author calls out that despite Meta's attempts to prevent recording if the LED is covered, it is easy to get around the block. I think it's good for mainstream press to say it, so more ppl realize. They also call out that human moderators at Meta review their smart glasses footage. Inc videos of people having sex or using the toilet.

IDK if public backlash will nix the market for these, or if opposition will dry up and in 10 more years they will be mainstream tech like smartphones are today. I could see it going either way TBH.

Hey, is anyone associated Defcon '26 in here? I read with fascination about this year's badge, and I want one. I'm not able to attend, and TBH it would be wasted on me - it's not my field, or even my particular area of interest - but the technology in the badge looks fantastic and widely useful. Maybe Huang will sell the boards with the chip in the future, but have the Defcon organizers thought about making the detachable part of the badge available to the general public? The badges are configurable to represent special groups - VIPs, speakers, attendees ... maybe sell a badge for non-attendee collectors?

It's a long shot, but I thought it was worth asking the question.

My search for a defcon community came up empty, and I know privacy isn't exactly apropos for my Q but I guess the overlap is pretty large.
