Mamdani would not have won without running as a Democrat. I'm still in favor of a party coup via primary action unless the DSA can actually go toe to toe with the Democratic and Republican parties at the same time. I'll probably drop some money on them in '26, but I'm not really convinced they'll be a potent standalone group without the brand recognition of the Democratic party.
Bernie recently started encouraging candidates to run independent
It may be viable in smaller seats in pretty blue districts. The losing move would be a presidential run.
It doesn't matter if he wouldn't have won if he turns into a generic establishment Democrat anyways.
Also your comment is very rich because the DNC did everything to work against Mamdani during his campaign.
