The only belief that's been ~~shattered~~ mildly bruised is that he is in the in-group, and that by association his wife is too. But it's a safe bet that he still believes himself to be in the in-group.

Exactly. You vote for the Leopards Eating Peoples' Faces Party because you want to watch the leopards eating someone's face. You just never believe it will be your face.

Having grown up in the southern US, it can be indoctrinating. Especially in religious areas of which he is a part. Am I going to defend him? No, he made his choices. Am I happy he's willing to go speak in front of congress? Yes.
