Don't change the original title: Trump's push to acquire Greenland puts Arctic island in focus

Yeah, the article itself is actually pretty good.

Now that title is the original one, imo I do miss some overview of the like 30ish military bases the US had in Greenland. I find this relevant because the main argument Trump's been forwarding is the need to secure Greenland. This recent article, is a brief history of US military bases in Greenland.

I also found this map:

#Add: This NG article claims that some bases were toxic and needed cleaning up. "In late summer 2019, cleanup work began at the former military base Bluie East Two. On January 11, 2018, Denmark had announced that it would contribute 180 million kroner ($29 million U.S.) over six years to begin cleaning up some of the abandoned military bases on Greenland, though experts warned that the amount was unlikely to be enough to finish the job."

Had, during and right after WW2. The Guardian article you linked quotes a 1952 news report:

At least four major United States air force bases will be built in Greenland in addition to the three already operating there, Danish government sources announced to-day.

The new bases will be hundreds of miles closer to Moscow and the western rim of the Soviet Union than the existing base at Thule. They will lie right across the path which Soviet bombers may be expected to follow in any mission against the chief industrial areas in the eastern United States and around the Great Lakes.

Why am I not surprised.

It's an example that if security is what they really want, USA could use easily use this format and reopen bases, or build news ones or whatever, within the current Danish-US agreement.
