MODERATORS
I don't really revel in the suffering of others, even when they voted against their own interests. There are billions of dollars spent manipulating these people.
They are victims of lack of education. They are Fox News Zombies. "Internationally, the US ranks 125th for literacy. 54% of Americans between 16-74 read below a sixth-grade level.”: Snopes This is by design, and this has been the American experience since the Reagan administration. This is why it has become more and more expensive for middle class people to get a University education. This is why Trump is going after Universities.
They are grown adults so while being manipulated is certainly a problem they are still responsible for falling for it at the individual level. Like how crime is often the result of poverty and other stresses, but we still hold (most) individuals responsible for their actions.
The community is entirely about mocking people who are facing the consequences of voting for those who make them suffer, in case you didn't notice.
The punitive carceral "justice" system is no kind of justice.
they mentioned nothing about prisons… they said we hold people responsible. the way we punish is beside the point
the point is that if someone does something bad because they’re the product of a poor environment, we still consider them responsible for their actions
Do you not see the inherent contradiction in that? Our system punishes people for being products of their environment interacting with their genes. Not reform, PUNISHMENT. Do you take away a child's toys for getting sick?
holding people responsible doesn’t necessarily imply prison or punishment… sure the way we do it now is exactly that, but it doesn’t have to be… rehabilitation doesn’t have to be about punishing someone
But if their actions are a direct result of their genes and environment, how is that something to be "responsible" for? Are you responsible for being born without legs? The punitive (fine people money they probably don't have anyway) carceral (kick the can of building better conditions down the road for another generation to deal with) system was built primarily to oppress minorities anyhow, so why defend it? Toss it on the scrap heap of history and build something less horrific.
Would say this would be a great moment to do some community outreach and help however I don't know how many resources the democratic party in WV would have to spare and the Democrat who introduced legislation to help fund relief was voted down.
FFS! Republicans that were voted in to WV are “Public Servants”!! THEY should be helping their constituents!
The constituents for most US politicians are their donors, not the people in their district.
Being not Democrats is enough public service for most of these counties
