Nah, we’ll still be able to tell. Effective, strategic, hits people of all walks of life? Iran. Bungled, half-assed, and happens in a blue city, in a community of color, at a gay bar… you know.

So Iran just has to do it all bungled and half-assed and we'll never suspect it was them!

What dimension of chess are we now playing? 6D? 7D? Shit’s going to start blowing up and 1/3 of the people will be claiming it, 1/3 blaming it, and 1/3 lying about it, when in fact it was a laptop battery that overheated.

You mean like that “potential drone strike attempt” in California that the FBI said Iran might try to do? Despite it being unlikely that Iran has drones capable of striking California?

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Haha, yeah. I saw that too and pondered at the veracity of that claim. If Iran has drones that can fly across the Indian and Pacific Oceans and still hit a target, damn, that’s a helluva technological leap.

yeah if iran can get a drone to california i'm more impressed with their drone than their payload

A head's up, totally feasible. A drone strike can be launched from a boat, a box truck, a garage, anywhere you can have an operator to control it.

I'm not saying that this particular threat was a real problem, but personally I do not understand how the US has not been hit yet. Why is Iran not even bothering?

[–] toad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Because they're not terrorists.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Even they admit they are terrorists. Constantly

Because historically, the only two times the USA was actually attacked on USA soil, we retaliated with an unreasonable amount of force. Sure we didn’t nuke anyone after 9/11, but we did after Pearl Harbor and Trump is absolutely demented and egotistical enough to actually try to nuke a country that directly attacks the USA. Plus, attacking Iran is pretty unpopular in the USA because people can tell that we are doing this at the behest of Israel, and they don’t want American soldiers to die fighting Israel’s war (obviously some Americans are fine with this tho bc zionists are loyal to Israel above all else). If Iran attacks the USA directly then suddenly attacking Iran will be wildly popular in the USA, which will mean an even longer and more brutal conflict is guaranteed

If Iran attacks us, how can we even be mad? If we want to stop it, we need to change at home. It's our fault.

[–] FearMeAndDecay@literature.cafe 2 points 13 hours ago

I agree that it totally makes sense if Iran attacks the USA. It’s not good (war never is), but it makes sense. However, most Americans don’t think like this. They’ll suddenly feel an ounce of the fear that we’ve made other people across the world feel and instead of reflecting on why this happened and that it’s the consequences of the USA’s actions, they’ll get angry and go full scorched earth. Just like people did with 9/11. People still use that as “justification” for terrorizing the entire Middle East

We have sonar so good we can find a dead billionaire at the bottom of the sea. Ain't no way they get a boat with a drone in range without us letting it happen.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

They don't have to launch direct attacks, as already there are sympathizers who could come out of nowhere.
