Expecting people to not sabotage the rolling death machines "too high a bar"
I was just going to say that the roads are for humans, not machines, but this is a better idea.
But Waymo taxis are demonstrably safer than human drivers.
Maybe you're thinking of Tesla who's significantly worse than human drivers because they ditched LIDAR.
The only groups saying that are Waymo and Google.
Sofas are even safer, but sofas should fuck off out of the bike lane too. And out of the bus lane too, but that's never going to happen.
... says research paid for by Waymo.
I know critical thinking skills are in short supply these days, but come on.
That's not critical thinking. It's making an assumption based on bias.
I made a previous post about this. Anecdotally, I've seen numerous human drivers hit pedestrians in SF. Number of Waymos hitting humans that I have seen in local news or in person, none.
They are very very conservative with their driving in SF but can still navigate SFs complex streets (I.e. when a doordash is parallel parked theyre very good at driving around them).
That's why you have to standardize the statistics.
Humans are responsible for more total pedestrian crashes than robo taxis simply because there's more human drivers on the road.
Although the standardized statistics agree with your anecdotal observations in this case.
I don't know why you are trying to defend human drivers so much. I share the road whit them every day and I hope to fucking God they all get replaced with robots soon.
I'm not trying to defend human drivers; I'm all for all human drivers being replaced.
