World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

WTF? As the text says:
Fedorov is the brains behind a huge part of the success Ukraine is currently enjoying!
He was key in getting SpaceX to shut down Starlink for the Russians in Ukraine, and he was behind the massive purchasing of drones that is now turning the war to Ukraine's advantage. And the strategy to award successful drone pilots with more drones.
Again WTF he did better than any general in the Ukrainian military has done!
I really really hope Ukraine is doing the right thing, but I suspect not.
Edit:
After reading the entire article, it seems pretty clear that this is an insanely stupid decision. In 6 months Fedorov has been behind no less than 20 successful strategies against Russia. with the above mentioned being only 2 of them!!
All because a general is pissed that Fedorov wants to modernize some of the old post Russian structures, and make them NATO like, in part to prevent corruption!!
Goddammit!? 😬
Edit2:
I don't get the downvotes? If you think I'm wrong watch this:

Apparently there are also already protests against it?!
Zelensky has prosecuted this war better than anyone's wild imagination would have led them to believe. I trust that if he's making a decision, there is sound reasoning behind it. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
I agree Zelenskyy has handled this very well, but in this case it seems like he is making a HUGE mistake, that he has given no good reason for.
Trusting the old Russian school general, over the most successful defense minister by far they've had this entire war is INSANE!!
Fedorov has been behind ALL the successful strategies since February, that have turned the war around completely, so Ukraine now is dominating Russia.
When I write ALL, I mean literally ALL.
He had been defense minister for mere days when he succeeded in doing what others before him hadn't achieved in years. Turning off starlink for the Russians, because he figured out how they could be detected to be Russian. Mind you Russia used fake Ukrainian identities to spoof the system.
He has made several tactics and strategies that are described as GENIUS! Who do you imagine can replace him and continue the victory streak Ukraine has experienced for the past 6 months?
Zelenskyy has been great, but Fedorov has taken it to a whole other level. Not the idiot general that refuse to modernize.
No, the Comedian Actor Zelensky, who has explicitly the exact same qualifications to be a world leader as Donald Trump, has not 'prosecuted' this war. He has been an incredible front man for this war, for the competent people that have run this war and resistance against Russia. He is an amazing actor, and has utilized those skills to well market this war to previously unsure NATO countries.
However he has no qualifications or skill to actually lead a war, and he used to admit that. Consistently firing his generals over petty disputes, at best, seems like the shortest possible path to a complete balkanization of Ukraine into its disparate regions as the people with actual power and competency in Ukraine start new rebellions (especially given democracy has been indefinitely paused so the people have had no say in any of this for years now.)
Oh so you know of a dispute involved in this change of leadership? Do share with the rest of us please as well as your source as you seem to have inside information that the news media does not.
Did... did you forget to click on the link? This is lemmy, it's similar to reddit. The giant text on the top is actually a hyperlink to a whole other website with exactly the information you're requesting. My comment is directly based on the information in the actual article.
Iirc this was related to the corruption charges affecting his government. Hence why the PM is also kicked out after a mere year.
No that is long over. Fedorov actually wanted to strengthen the purchasing system used withing thew Ukrainian military, exactly to prevent corruption.
¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
I don't know yet but I also trust Zelenskyy above all, who has solely been instrumental in Ukraine surviving this long and know any of these events yet heavily exploited by those Russian genocidists.
So I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
Imagine him eyeing someone even better for the job. Russia must be shitting its pants.
As I wrote "I hope they know what they are doing".
But it certainly doesn't appear so. There is no logic explanation given for why this should be good, except Fedorov doesn't have a military background. Which is UTTER bullshit!.
