This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

I guess someone needs to create the Star.trek lemmey instance
Man I don't even know what instance I'm on. Is there a good instance?
Most are fine, there are a few right wing instances that crop up but most instances defederated from them fairly quickly (unless you're on an "as long as it's not illegal" instance, which include dbzer0, Lemmy.zip and lemmy.sdf.org)
The ones that are somewhat still federated but best to avoid are the ones known as the Tankie Triad, Hexbear Lemmygrad and Lemmy.ml.
Hex and grad are fairly widely defederated from, including your instance, because of their tankie authoritarian ideology (Supports and defends authoritarian countries like Russia and NK (they'll spread propaganda like Ukraine deserved to be invaded by Russia and it's not even Russia invading but "liberation")). Lemmy.ml tends to not be, because they try to keep it more subtle, there's this mega thread that documents it. It's lemmy.ml centric, but general rule of thumb is that whatever Lemmy.ml does hex and grad are known to be worse.
Most other instances are fine, .world...is just too big and that "power" has tended to go to their heads sometimes, though I will say not to the mass degree that Lemmy.ml does.
Oh and startrek.website is pretty shit, but you could tell that from this post LMAO
You're on Lemmy.world which is a very large lib instance (very dem friendly, but highly sanitized). They have defederated with the leftests (hexbear.net, ~~Lemmy.ml~~ [the Lemmy dev's home instance], and lemmygrad.ml) over "extreme views" and ~~the anarchists (Lemmy.dbze0.com) over piracy support~~ (oh my mistake, they just blocked all piracy communities) long time ago. I'll let someone else explain the flotilla.
As for good instances, it depends what kind of experience you want to have. Why isn't there an instance test yet?
World has never defederated from lemmy.ml, partially because they're the dev's home instance.
You're right. Its been so long since I've been on .world that i forgot. I think its also because so many comms are on there too if I remember. I should have known though because I see .worlders in YPTB complaining about .ml sometimes.
nah, scare quotes can naff off. Hexbear was dogpiling like crazy and .ml is just...IDK what they're doing over there but everyone's banned from it.
It's not scare quotes, I'm representing that this was .world's view.
And what hexbear was doing was interacting with the common reditor refugee after interacting with nothing but their leftest instance for years. It was a clash of cultures, and I think the right thing happened. I think that's the great thing about the fediverse - being able to decide (as instance, comm, or user) who you interact with, which was what the tesseract dev was taking away from people.
Agreed.
I still get lemmy ml , maybe because I'm on sync, but I've blocked it several times.
