I've been doing that more after joining the Fediverse but there are a handful of exceptions. One is an absolute nutter who spreads disinformation like it's butter, and I can't bring myself to block him because while I'll never be able to make him stop, at least I can advise others that a) it is false information and b) he is immune to evidence. (It's an unusual situation where what he says is pretty easy to refute). So I can also help people not to waste their time talking to him (or at least to go in forearmed)

Consider reporting too! Community and instance admins alike may act on such cases with a permaban

With that one I have reported them but I don't think anything happened. I don't remember to which instance the report went though now
