This is another good example of saying “Fuck (country name)” they’re usually talking about the government of that country, and not necessarily the citizens. For example, Russia can fuck right off, but I’d expect that most Russian citizens are decent people who are merely drowning in propaganda. Lots of people are, all around the world.

[–] bryophile@lemmy.zip 26 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Yes even US Americans are probably just decent people generally. I know it's hard to imagine with some of these countries but we shouldn't forget people aren't their governments.

[–] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 12 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

To be fair, at least 1/3 of us are the deplorables who got us here.

[–] bryophile@lemmy.zip 9 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

And even they are mostly decent people, just misguided by propaganda/misinformation.

[–] UsernamesAreForSuckers@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I don’t think anyone not living in America understands how deeply propaganda is pushed here across media and culture. The ruling class has distorted everything so much it’s hard to have a coherent conversation with most people on real issues. The misinformation and capital class talking points are intensely deep seated.

Eh, the rest of the western world aren't really any better in this regard, as much as they try to pretend that they are

[–] bryophile@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

I think it's pretty obvious for us here outside the US too. It is like bad body odour, it is harder to notice when you're inside it and used to it.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 0 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

No. I've had several people admit to me that the hatred is the point.

Anyine who still supports this regime is supporting them because of the hatred.

[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Most people aren't born hateful. They're taught it, and you can unteach it too.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

I judge people based on their choices and actions.

Some have chosen to embrace the hatred. And so I judge them for it.

At this point in my life, I'm not interested in attempting to redeem people who have chosen evil.

Hate is a multi-billion dollar business in America. The capital class spends obscene amounts of money to keep people hating each other and stoke the culture war. It’s the evolution of the old school union busting on the 1900s.

[–] bryophile@lemmy.zip 0 points 9 hours ago

So you're hating them back? That'll teach them!

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 20 hours ago

Their comments are kind of easy to pick out luckily.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 3 points 19 hours ago

Yeah, Americans can be insufferable but I try to consider that they're indoctrinated from birth and people be people. Birthplace doesn't dictate the person

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

I take that approach for almost countries, but I have a hard time with Israel because their polls continue to show 80%+ support for the genocide. That’s a huge portion of the population to be irredeemable.

Comments on either here or one of the others

Doesn’t matter 80 is well enough and both track

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 hours ago

Might have been confusing the stats for pro-genocide vs "merely" pro-aparthied

I think you’ll find that support for the regime outside of Moscow is poor.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 hours ago
[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

They support what they believe. They believe anything bad being reported is just antisemitism.

[–] Jordan117@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago

Tbh, Israelis as a whole invite a lot of hate upon themselves by wholeheartedly supporting outright genocide. Public polling there shows a disturbingly large number of even young, secular Israelis advocate for killing everyone in Gaza, including women and children:

https://zeteo.com/p/its-not-just-netanyahu-a-lot-of-israelis

https://theconversation.com/in-israel-calls-for-genocide-have-migrated-from-the-margins-to-the-mainstream-250010

That doesn't mean every Israeli or every Jewish person is culpable or suspect, ofc. But I think it's even more justifiable to distrust the country as a whole as it is to distrust the US electorate after re-electing Trump. Netanyahu is corrupt and bloodthirsty, but his policies still enjoy broad support from voters there.

I fully mean fuck the state and the people of Israel. May their country be destroyed and the lands returned to the Palestinians. Israelis can go flee to the US or something for all I care.
