Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

People wishing to be one with nature don't ever seem to realize that nature is brutal and horrific just as much as it is peaceful and serene. If anything it is more the former.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

Yeah fuck nature. Domesticated cat is the sweet spot.

Outside free to roam a fairly safe territory and then snuggles and guaranteed food and shelter pretty much on command.

Ditto dog, but they've got a slightly less sweet deal.

Just like our lives, but at least theirs less to think about as a duck.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Return as a yew tree. Come on, eat me fuckers, I dare you.

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Fun fact, the English wiped out their yew trees to make longbows

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

We still have them, though I do suspect a lot fewer than would be there naturally. We have now wiped out almost all of our woodland in general.

At least the animals are just trying to survive and procreate, rather than hoard more wealth than they can consume in a lifetime.

[–] paraproto@szmer.info 3 points 16 hours ago

Think of invasive species or whatever happens when a balance in nature is toppled. If they would be able to hoard more wealth they would do it.

Shake a treat bag near a fat dog and see what happens.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

He's try to eat it all, but he will not board hundreds thousands of times what he can possibly eat.

[–] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I often hear people complain that billionaires could never actually use all their wealth. The hoarding of the wealth for their "use" was never the point though.

Its all a game of power, influence, and leverage over other people. If you have more money than someone else, you get the ability to bully them. So for a billionaire, you want more money than the other billionaires. You also want to deprive poor and middle class people of wealth so they have even less leverage and are more desperate than they would be if you simply had a lot of money, and not all of the money.

You can get a starving homeless person to do a lot more for you with an offer of cheap gruel than you can a contented peasant with a solid gold bar.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Huh, am I the contented peasant, largely by refusing to accept the bullshit of consumerism?

It seems like I really dont need much money to be happy

[–] morto@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Very few people realize how much we can impact the system if we all just rejected most things it offers us and lived the simplest life we could

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

The awesome thing about it is that it saves so much money, eliminates a lot of sources of stress, frees time and energy. You could cut back on work hours or retire earlier too!

Honestly think we should be pushing more for a 4 hour work week too.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You don't have to hoard wealth if you don't want to. I don't care for it and feel fine.

[–] morto@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Me too! I mean, I wouldn't be able to have any hoarded wealth even If I wanted to, so at least I don't want it, so it's fine

I'm sorry to know you are hoarding more wealth than you can consume in a lifetime.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That was my reaction. You could compare isolated moments from any two lives so one looks blissful and the other looks horrible.
