Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

not interesting, but I got permabanned for ban evasion. I got caught up in the mod meltdown in r/conspiracy after the 2020 election because it was fucking hilarious. still the best popcorn episode that I have ever witnessed. got banned for pissing off axolotl. I used to have a separate account on each device I used because I don't know, it was just a thing that I did. I was on another device a day or so later and went back and I must have said something similar enough to get reported for evasion. that was it. over the next few days all of the old accounts I had were instantly banned at login. any new accounts that I tried to make were shadowbanned. a while later I found a couple of very old accounts that I was able to keep going by blocking all the conservative subs that I used to argue with people in, until one day I must have slipped up and said something "wrong" because those accounts were shadowbanned too. this was conveniently a short time before the API lockdown, so I just came over here and haven't gone back except when someone links over there.
I recognize that name from this site.
So do I. I used to be quite active in /r/Conspiratard, /r/TopMindsOfReddit and other such subs where we laughed at the silly people of /r/conspiracy etc. axolotl was featured regularly there. I kind of missed what happened to him, did people finally get enough of his antics? Nervous breakdown? Banned? Anyone know?
I think he got permabanned for promoting violence at the January 6th riot. I do remember that he had previously gotten a temporary ban for promoting election denialism, because that was a thing that you would actually get banned for in 2020. he went on to make conspiracies.win, which still has a small number of active users today.
Ah, thats nice to know. Not a big surprise.
IP tracking too. It really annoys me that reddit insinuates it can "just tell" it's you based on similar language usage, because:
I suppose they match the communities followed, so maybe you just followed the same set, in the same order - perhaps to make up for losing one account, you added all of its subreddits in the same order as "most-visited" among them.
I'm just not buying across millions of users, there exists a combination of ethical pattern matching (e.g. subs, comment patterns, online timing, etc). to reliably identify a single human behind multiple accounts. We're not that unique.
It's 100% IP and cookie based. Each of which can be circumvented without too much issue.
Browser fingerprinting however is not easy to circumvent.
You can generally fool them by just changing one or two variables like GPU acceleration.
Or, change browsers.
There's a couple of extensions for that. But yeah its usually not easy.
