Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
😇 Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
🏘️ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
🧬 Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
📋 Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
📬 Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.

🏴☠️ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]

🍿 Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
- GPrime85
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

The fuck is wrong with you?
No.
If you e ever known someone who has gone through that, it's actually a bit light.
No.
I truly believe the world right now is going through an empathy crisis what with the rise of the far right. Humans evolved empathy to better survive and take care of each other. Our neoliberal capitalist world rewards narcissism, individuality, and exploitation. The literal opposite of empathy. It's being un-learned, people are literally devolving because of profit and systemic abuse and violence perpetuated by those at the top.
And you are perpetuating that. Downplaying the lived fucking reality of countless women is utterly disgusting. Real life is dramatic. Because it's real. It's horrible. It's painful. It's terrifying. But that is what this woman absolutely went through. And so many others have as well. And it stays with them their entire lives, constantly following them, the trauma coming back when the body and mind attempt to protect them from experiencing that trauma again.
The state of education is so piss poor, and it's on purpose such that we remain divided so that those on top can continue to escape accountability. Everyone should be educated dramatically about what went on here. Because this is not uncommon. There should be better education of what rape is and it shouldn't be censored or hidden away, it should be given the weight it's deserved. And drug use should be educated as well. The effects, ensuring it's done safely, that there's no such thing as consent when mind-altering substances are involved.
I'm glad this case is getting people to talk. Because it's really exposing how so many people lack empathy and can't see themselves in the position of others. It's getting people to talk about what consent and rape really is. But man is it tough to see so many people downplay the situation and even blame the victim for what happened, or even outright deny that anything happened at all.
And to tie this little essay in a bow, it tends to be those who lack empathy. Which empathy correlates with higher intelligence which correlates with not being a conservative, fascist freak. It's all connected in the end. And we're living through an empathy crisis brought on by neoliberal capitalism and its focus on individuality that places the fault of all bad outcomes on the individual. That is the fight we find ourselves in today.
Be radically empathetic.
Getting raped.
Are you asking what the point of art is? Does every artistic portrayal need to reference a real event or be limited to portraying a singular event? Did it evoke feelings in you? The point is clearly to outrage and induce feelings in viewers against heinous sexual assault which is perpetrated against women all the time. If people are unaware or unemotional about social issues nothing will change.
The point is it makes you uncomfortable. It forces us to reconcile with reality. This shit happens. Real people are harmed. While this is in relation to a specific case which many have already mentioned in the comments, the point is that this is normal. It's not one individual woman who has experienced this. Thousands go through this all the time and we normalize looking away or vicitim blaming. That's the point.
It's not made up. It's not random. It's real fucking people asswipe. It's lives ruined and perpetrators escaping accountability. Especially if they have wealthy or connected parents. Lazy or "inconvenienced" police and district attorneys. Real people, real crimes and you're still actively downplaying it saying it's random, it doesn't matter, isn't it too dramatic? Does it make you uncomfortable?
That's the fucking point.
Specifically this comic is in reference to the "Cornell 7" rape trial that is ongoing right now. A woman alleges she was gang raped at a frat party (and there is a lot of very strong evidence to support that claim, including group chat messages saying "free pussy upstairs" among many other things)
There have been people coming out with the usual "boys will be boys", "how come it took so long to report", "she can't just cry rape because she regretted it days later", and a lot of other victim blaming bullshit.
I am not sure, possibly related to the "Cornell 7" case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Cornell_University_rape_allegations
But possibly just meant in general.
Of course it is dramatic! We should not expect people to brush off and ignore assault like it’s a stubbed toe.
Why does a comic need to present the facts? Its artistic commentary on a current case. If you want the facts look it up on your own. Art is about emotion, which I think is well portrayed here.
What are "the facts" in your view?
Oh right the far-left opinion of 'don't rape people'. Yea.
Go on and list those facts, please. With sources.
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean here... For me, it seems like comment you replied to is not looking for any answers, it's self-contained criticism (otherwise, I guess a more appropriate way would be asking a question).
I believe the reason why most people only downvote the comment and don't actually reply to it is because they don't want to take the risk of wasting time debating with someone who, regardless, will probably stay on their point of view...
Now, another thing I don't quite get is, what's the criticism exactly? "Facts"? What does that mean? (it's a real question, I might be dumb by not understanding, but I'd still like to try) The comics says everything there is to say to understand it, or so it seems to me?
On one side "don't rape people" on the other side "do rape people"
Hmm, hard choice.
Didn't realize how well I called it in my longer comment, but seems you both are far-right lunatics who are uncomfortable with women speaking out and calling out their abusers and bringing to light how much we have normalized victim blaming and looking the other way.
Go figure. There really is a strong correlation between conservatism, lack of empathy, and lower IQ. Y'all both are the exact data points.
Seems y'all want to try and troll and invade spaces to put forth your narratives of intolerance. Unfortunately, you don't have your corporate daddies to simp to and control a narrative here. And we don't have to tolerate intolerance.
You're stupid
Don't breed
Is it, though?
