Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.

I think I read some time ago that Newsom's argument is that a national billionaire tax would be better and more effective than a California billionaire tax.
But yeah maybe he should just support both: a California tax and a national tax.
It is pretty obscene that billionaires can spend nearly limitless money trying to defeat a proposal for them to pay just a little bit more in tax; a tax which could save the lives of the most disadvantaged people in society.
Yeah, well, too little too late. He also passed a ban on 3D printing. I don't remember the specifics of it, but it was something to do with ghost guns, but we all know the real purpose is to prevent people from making replacement parts for their stuff. Right to repair is so fucked, and he's made it worse for no reason.
There are a lot of reasons to hate the guy even though he's done some decent stuff.
I don't just blindly support candidates, and I never will. I want a Mamdani to run for president, and congress. We need people who actually care. Not people who just want power. The entire world is lurching right now bcz of the manipulated online discourse, and our idiot neoliberal polices from the past 40-50 years. It's like clock work, the generation that experienced fascism dies, so we decided, maybe let's try it again. Maybe it'll work this time.
Fair points. I'm British not American, so I'm sure you know a lot more about Newsom than I do. I've seen a couple of interviews with him but that's about it.
If 2028 is Newsom vs Vance and Newsom wins, I would hope that would improve the world. Maybe a Democrat who more boldly stands up for ordinary (non-wealthy) people would be better, but whether they'd get enough support from Middle America to win the presidency, I don't know.
