I had to read on these. Apparently they are unregulated pharmaceuticals sold as dietary supplements, because for some reason labelling things as supplements makes them out of scope for safety regulators?

And now they are game branded.

Yep, saw a video of one that was Viagra and Cialis together (which shouldn't ever be taken together)

Huh? Could you elaborate on the no-mix part? I thought they were essentially the same thing (sidenafil and tadalafil), well, not exactly the same, but causing the exact same effect to the body, just with different release timeframes (~day vs ~few hours). It's not like bleach+vinegar thing? All the info I could find on dangers of mixing the two boils down to what is effectively an overdose, which you can achieve with either single one of them, by just chugging the whole pack at once.

which shouldn’t ever be taken together

If I had to guess, I'd say that the likelihood of there being any of the active ingredient of either in the capsules is as close to zero as makes no difference, and, if there is any, it's in doses so low that it would make even a homeopath blush, regardless of what it might say on the packaging.

Weirdly, the problem is more supplements claiming to be "all natural" and then illegally containing drugs regulated for prescription only: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/mens-health/hidden-viagra-ingredients-performance-supplements-safety-guide-rcna181692

Which country? (As though I dont already know...)

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The better question might be "which state"

[–] minfapper@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago

Nope, being labelled a supplement not only lets you bypass approvals, but the FDA legally can't inspect or investigate your product until after people start getting sick.

All 50 states.

Same applies to "well being crystals" they're very careful in not saying they'll heal you.

Oh yeah I have a while spiel for patients about FDA regulated "food" vs Drugs. For instance the melatonin tablets are the only ones in the pyxis (that I'm aware of) with no imprint because according to the FDA, they're food! Doesn't necessarily make one pill safer than the other but you need to know what you're getting into.

And now they are game branded.
