Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,

πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
- GPrime85
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I don't think I really get foldables. Instead of having a phone and a tablet, you can have one device that does a shit job of being either (the outer screen is usually a weird aspect ratio and not optimised for one handed use, and the inner screen is quite small as tablets go), but it also costs the same as just getting both. Oh and they're also very fragile.
For book-styles: mostly, it's not having to charge, carry and sync two separate devices. It's a lot nicer to type on 2-handed than a bar-style phone, especially for those of us with fat fingers, the inner screen is much better for content and games. Outer screen's aspect ratio matters little as it is mostly for quick things anyway Yes, the flexible screen is a little fragile, but is fairly well protected when folded - moreso than a naked tablet. I've shattered the outer screen of my fold and the inner was fine.
I tried carrying a cellular iPad Mini as a phone for a while but kept having to find coats and pants with giant pockets - and I cracked two of them.
I've found that a good grip is essential to ease of use on folds though (and I drop it much less).
The phone-to-square ones seem to be most popular with those with pocket space problems, as they fit neatly into small pockets and are less bulk to hang from a lanyard, belt clip etc when you have no pockets.
Fat finger gang rise up. It's great to be able to actually use my thumbs to type, and not have to rely on swype or use my pinky like a stylus.
They are much more durable than you think. The hinge absorbs impacts really well so they are much more likely to survive falls, the inner screen scratches easily but since it is closed when not in use thats not really a concern. I do wish mine didnt have the outer screen since I barely use it, but I find the larger screen is really useful in general.
I also canβt deal with the β¦. Texture? Of the screen. I want that screen to be hard hard hard. And a foldableβ¦ canβt be.
Can't say I've seen a foldable screen that feels notably different from any other screen with a protector?
Unless you're pressing hard enough to damage a normal display I'm confused
I got a foldable for a couple of years and I can definitely feel a "dip" and a different, kinda rougher, texture at the fold line. Doesn't bother me, might really bother someone else.
I agree, having lived through the old plastic covered LCD screens it would be nearly impossible to convince me to give up my gloriously durable tempered glass.
I don't really get the ones that are tablet sized but fold down to phone size, but I do love my regular sized phone that folds in half.
It fits in all my pockets, it's easier to carry in my hands, the folding in half is great for using the flashlight and the camera because you can be hands free, and while you could have this on a non folding phone I do really like the half screen on the back.
I did break mine eventually after a year, but that is honestly pretty par for the course for me - and it was fixable. In its defence I am officially clutzy and drop things regularly, and also it fell out of my pocket at one point and got driven over by an SUV (and it still worked for another month, I was impressed. I dropped it one last time a month later and the screen detached at the fold and the hinge went askew).
See, I'm the reverse, I don't understand the phones that fold in half. A regular phone already fits in my pocket and I want to use it as a table if needed; usually for video content.
The pockets thing is 100% more of an issue for anyone wearing women's pants. Mine are 50/50, and the difference is very annoying.
Apparently slightly thicker than usual but half the height is a good compromise for women who need to be able to put their phones in tiny pockets.
It might depend on how large your pockets are. I've been tempted by the flip foldables because I'd love to have more options to put the phone than just my back pockets. Though I'm not actually sure if the front pockets on my pants are large enough for those.
Cause I want a phone for pocket fit, but I want the screen size of a tablet.
Something that fits the pocket like a phone, with a larger screen you can read a book on is something very enticing.
But those things can't do either, and as you said, are expensive and unreliable.
I like being able to open it up and read comics or watch videos, but still have it conveniently usable as a regular phone. I had one for a few years that I kept in my pocket daily in a very physically demanding job and never had any problems with the fragility. Only reason I got rid of it was because I'm done having Google hoovering up everything on my phone
Literally never broken folding phone. The only folding phones I've ever seen people have an actual documented issue as opposed to people who just go off vibes is the original Samsung Galaxy Fold and the iPhone duo.
Because I can't put a tablet in my pocket. Front screen is fine, inner screen is fine, big enough to be a significant improvement. Fragility isn't an issue if you're not needlessly rough with it.
