Musk must be charged for treason.

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 63 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is it really treason if it's in line with what the government is doing?

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's not like US elections weren't rigged by massive campaign spending before. This is literally how the system is set up and worked for decades before. Musk just did it "right" by buying the biggest media platform of the time. People literally laughed at the massive financial loss he made with Twitter... then the government changed. Some still don't get what Musk did there.

People being uninformed mixed with misinformed will be the death of this species

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

People were always uninformed and greed rules the world since at least ten centuries. We literally had leaded gasoline and chemicals killing the ozone layer.
But we also got MAD figured out - probably the biggest achievement in human existence. And we banned leaded gasoline and the ozone layer killer chemicals. We solved acid rain too.
I think, our species is actually progressing positively right now - even though it may not always look like that.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

I hope you're right, I'm tired of drowning in division and idiocy.

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 48 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It is if the government is also treasonous. Is it possible to charge an administration for treason? Perhaps we’ll see soon. Probably not, though.

[–] andallthat@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, but I bet we could be charged for treason for speaking against Cheesecake Saddam

[–] wltr@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Sorry to interrupt, but why the cheesecake? I just found it hilarious for some reason, but I’m not getting whether the cheesecake bears any hidden meaning I’m not getting.

[–] andallthat@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

The Cheesecake Factory is a restaurant chain. Its decor is intentionally over-the-top.

Saddam Hussein lived a very extravagant lifestyle, even by dictators' standards, and famously built himself palaces so overfilled with gold and precious things that instead of looking luxurious they looked tacky and in horrible taste.

Obama joked that Trump's White House looks like if Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory (Trump and MAGA took it about as well as you can imagine).

The brilliance of the joke is that, while being on the surface about interior design, Obama called Trump a narcissistic dictator getting rich by stealing from his own people. And clearly MAGAs choose to focus their response only on the Cheesecake part of the joke.

[–] wltr@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 6 days ago

Thank you so much for explaining this! I felt like I really like the joke / name, but the context made it truly brilliant indeed!

[–] madmantis24@lemmy.wtf 2 points 6 days ago

Slacktivist link in the wild!

[–] narp@feddit.org 4 points 6 days ago

Obama made a joke that the white house with the renovations under Trump (with all the gold and such) looks like as if Saddam opened a cheese factory. Of course the Republicans didn't have any sense of humor..

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

You sort of have to go down the line person by person, but yes (assuming we still had a functional 3 branch government). Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution:

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

[–] logos@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's barely American. Born in South Africa, raised in Canada. Idk why people ever expected him to be an American patriot.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Now there’s a summarial execution I wouldn’t mind catching the livestream of

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Decapitation by flying Tesla?

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hmmm, that would be spectacular, but mercifully quick.

Perhaps we could put them in a carbon fiber submersible and cycle it between the ocean floor and back until it delaminates. That way the evemt is still quick, but they’ll first endure hours of anticipation.

…. Or we could just do it Mussolini style

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Maybe fill several cars with the DOGE team and see which can jump the grand canyon.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yea let's see the live stream firing squad of the orange one and his playboy.

As a conservative, I must insist that we hold to time-honored traditions of how to deal with this.

Add his awful children as well, Romanov style.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Shit, I’d buy that pay-per-view

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Musk should be guillotined, but the US Constitution defines treason very spefically for a good reason. And this isn't that.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It's giving aid and comfort to our enemy, textbook treason

[–] willington@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago

Don't you have to be a government official to be tried for treason? That said, Musk did run an illegal government agency once, not that long ago. Musk might qualify for treason.

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Did the US declare war on Russia this week? I didn't hear about that.

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I mean.... Are you "at war" with every enemy all the time or can one have an enemy and not technically be in a state of war?

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social -1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Well, the US is almost constantly at war. I didn't realize you guys also included everyone you're not currently bombing as enemies as well.

Though I guess the US use of Ukraine as a proxy is close enough . . .

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

Er, k, not American. I'll try not to be insulted by the slight, I know my accent probably is indistinguishable from theirs. Its ok. You're growing.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago

Fuck off. Russia can end the war in Ukraine any time they want. All they have to do is leave and stop bombing them.

[–] LilB0kChoy@reddthat.com 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe this isn’t but that doesn’t mean Musk hasn’t committed, and shouldn’t be tried for, treason.

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.librarysocialism.social 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The point is, why is Russia supposedly the enemy of the US again?

Seems the US has lots of enemies, and the liberals and conservatives just disagree on who they should be at constant war with, not if they should be at war.

[–] LilB0kChoy@reddthat.com 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The point is, why is Russia supposedly the enemy of the US again?

Really? I thought the point was “Musk must be charged for treason.”

Didn’t realize you conflated a whole different argument into that one sentence.

Maybe take your strawman into the fields with the rest of the scarecrows.

So Russia is an enemy of the US, or is not?

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

Definitely charged with election interference so… yes.
