Andy Yen's values are incompatible with Proton's mission. He advocates for poor security practices, supports fascists, and he verbally abuses his subordinates. As such, I can no longer in good conscience continue to financially support a company with such terrible leadership.

Unfortunately for me, my subscription just renewed last month on a multi year plan, but it does give me time to browse for and experiment with alternatives.

If you're able, I encourage you to do the same and cite Andy Yen as the driving factor for your decision. We can't let these tech bro fascists destroy what little semblance of privacy we have left.

It's a for profit company in a for profit society. It was bound to work against morality sooner or later.

There's only a small window where companies can make satisfactory profits without being evil. After that tiny window, it's genocide, slavery, total destruction.

For email you can use Tuta, which seems fine for now. I don't even know what other services Proton offers, so can't recommend anything there.

There's still a for profit company there,

And the foundation didn't stop this, so I'm not sure its a big point anymore.

True, but IMO their entire business model was to not be assholes, and businesses like that tend to hang on at least a bit better than this. I'm not saying I'm completely surprised though.
