Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I went Sublime -> VSCode -> Kate and I'm definitely not going backwards.
On Linux I tried the fltapak versio of VSCodium. It was very slow to load and constantly crashed. At work I'm forced to use Windows, but I still prefer Kate over VSCode. I might be biased by my hatred for Microsoft, but Kate works great for me.
I'm open to trying other open source editors/ides. From this post it sounds like genie might be cool. But I'm generally happy with Kate so unlikely to try something else.
Next step Vim!
