Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

But if we stayed in daylight saving time, in January the sun wouldn't rise until like 9 am in some places.

Maybe if we just stayed in standard time all year round, the shortening days wouldn't be so jarring to people because it would happen gradually instead of having a sudden fall back of an hour in autumn.

Or we stay in daylight saving time all year round and just accept the dark mornings.

Or the people who really don't like shorter days in winter can just move to the equator.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I would way rather have a late sunrise than an early sunset. It's not even close.

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Exactly, I do stuff after work. In the morning I just go to an office that has electric lighting.

Of course there are jobs that don't take place in an office, but having worked one of those, in my case we already just worked daylight hours, not a 9-5.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I however find it agonizing to get out of bed when it's cold & dark outside.

[–] Ghoelian@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Same, but i would rather have the darkness influence my work over my personal time.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I commend your enthusiasm about working. I simply cannot get out of bed when it's cold & dark outside.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago

Where I live it’s cold and dark at 7 in the winter even with standard time. All it means is the the sun starts to blind my on the way to work after the time change, which doesn’t really help. And I hate coming home in the dark so much more.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Get a sunrise alarm clock. Coming from a northern region, it’s mandatory in the winter DST or ST.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

I haven't used an alarm clock since 1988. I let my circadian rhythms wake me up. My circadian rhythms are more important to me than sacrificing my health for the rat race. And part of my health obsession included moving to Southern California where it's pretty much always springtime.

Some of us have to be, you know, at work, by a specific time, because people require and depend on us.

[–] AgOkami@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

In lots of places, that would mean that sunlight would be exclusive to oligarchs. The rest of us would almost never get home from work in time. I get that CEOs want early light and early darkness: we usually accept overtime when there's no hope of catching any sunlight, unlike late light and late dark where they have to put overtime on days with bad weather.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Let's do none of this and make everyone miserable!

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] Kichae@piefed.ca 26 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If you want to wake up an hour earlier, you can just do that. We don't need to fuck with the clocks.

DST is ridiculous. The sun should be near its zenith at noon, not at 1.

[–] DaGeek247@fedia.io 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah, this is my conclusion as well. It literally does not matter what the time is; we can choose to start school/work after sunrise like sane people.

Might as well fall back one more time, leaving an entire generation with an extra hour of sleep that is never taken away again.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

we can choose to start school/work after sunrise like sane people.

That's the crux of the problem though, isn't it? We don't do that. We let psychopaths who enjoy waking up before the sun decide when everything else starts and, big surprise, they chose early as fuck.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Please tell my job that I can come in an hour later every day.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (5 children)

The US House has passed a resolution to make DST permanent, so the folks who want permanent DST in the US might get their wish. But, I'm telling you, people are going to complain when their kids are having to walk to school in the pitch dark in the middle of winter.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

Around here, kids go to school in the dark in the winter regardless if it is DST or ST.

[–] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They could follow the recommendations of the pediatrician’s group (I forgot the name) and start school at a reasonable hour so that growing kids can get enough sleep.

[–] turkalino@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah I have clear memories of driving to school in the dark because of the asinine concept that is zero period

EDIT: I just learned California recently passed a law preventing high schools from starting before 8:30am to combat teen sleep deprivation. Good for them

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

My province switched to permanent DST this year, so we're experiencing it for the first time and it's... not that bad 🀷

I'm in Vancouver where it's already cloudy, and some kids were already heading to school an hour early for various extracurriculars

IMO if kids going to school in the dark is really a problem, then it should be fixed by adjusting when school starts and ends rather than changing the clock for every single person. I like having more sunlight in the afternoon when I can make use of it, compared to in the morning when it's used up by transit / getting ready for work and school.

However I wouldn't mind it too much if we had switched to permanent standard time either. I'm just glad that we don't have to change anymore.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To hell with the kids, I want to live too.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why can't you live on permanent standard time?

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Because it’s dark when I go to work, and dark when I leave work.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Then pick up an earlier shift, or move to Ecuador. Why do the rest of us have to adjust our clocks to accommodate you?

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The week after time change is the week with the highest heart attack rate and most car accidents. It’s dumb as shit.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know, I don't want to change my clocks ever again. I'm on standard time right now where I am in the US. Unless something changes, I'll have to change my clocks again in March, to DST. I don't want to do that, but I'll have to because of people like you who insist that EVERYONE must do what YOU want.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What? Where the fuck do you get that? I don’t want the time change either.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We should have one, year-round time but it should be standard time not DST. Here's why.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 23 hours ago

And sunrise at 4:30 in the summer, sounds like a great plan for circadian rhythm.

[–] ChapulinColorado@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Its nice to have sun light at the end of a slave wage shift. Schools and most jobs could start later. Most studies show humans do better when there is sunlight, because its what we had for millions of years to guide us.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Schools and most jobs could start later.

Well if we're willing to change school and work schedules, why not have the slave wage shift start even earlier so that there's even more sunlight hours during your free time? If you started your shift at midnight, you'd be coming home right about the time the sun's coming up. Seriously. If the goal is to have as much of the winter sunlight hours line up with people's after work time, that'd be about the best way to do it.

Day and night don't follow our clocks. The sun shines when the sun shines, days get shorter in the winter the further you are from the equator and we just have to live and work around that.

They’re not going to pass it by January when the new Congress starts.
