The parent company, (Brown-Forman Corporation), of American alcohol producers such as Jack Daniel's whisky and Woodford Reserve bourbon says sales to Canada dropped 62 per cent during the latest fiscal quarter compared to a year ago, as American alcohol remains off the shelves in many provinces.

After U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian goods in early March, a number of provinces retaliated, pulling American alcohol from store shelves. Alberta and Saskatchewan have since lifted the ban.

During a conference call with investors Thursday, officials with Brown-Forman — the parent company of brands such as Jack Daniel's and Woodford Reserve — noted other pressures, but said the boycott is causing a "significant impact."

Brown-Forman Corporation

Brown-Forman Corporation is an American family-controlled publicly traded company, one of the largest in the spirits and wine business. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, it manufactures several very well known brands throughout the world, including Jack Daniel's, Old Forester, Woodford Reserve, GlenDronach, BenRiach, Glenglassaugh, Herradura, Korbel, and Chambord. Brown-Forman formerly owned Southern Comfort and Tuaca before selling them off in 2016.

As of fiscal 2024 the company had gross sales of $5.32 billion and net sales of $4.178 billion.[2] The roughly 40 members of the Brown family, cousins that are descendants of founder George Garvin Brown, control more than 70% of the voting shares[3] and in 2016 had a net worth of $12.3 billion.[4]

I used to enjoy Woodford Reserve. I stopped buying bourbon myself due to all the nonsense, stuck with Scotch. Glad to see the boycott is working.

Never saw that bottle with tRump on it before. I will never drink WR again. Don't really drink Jack Daniels. Trying to cut down alcohol anyway so probably for the best.

Samesies. Double-fuck WF. Never again for me.

I like using different mineral waters for those tiny splashes of water in scotch. The salts in them are almost like salt on food - seasoning to bring out flavors. I had one scotch (I think Glenfiddich 15) that was almost like a rainbow of flavors came out after adding a tiny bit of topo chico.

I’m going to have to try that. I don’t ever buy mineral water (or any water, my tap works just fine and fuck the bottling industry), but I might have to make an exception and give it a try. I’ll usually add just a touch of water in my whisky and scotch, so maybe I’ll try mineral water next time. I drink more in the winter so it’ll probably be a bit before I give it a shot, but I’ve saved your comment for future reference. Thanks for the recommendation.

I wonder if you can just buy the appropriate salts and minerals in bulk.

Oh, look!

If it's good enough for a pig, it's good enough for me!

I’ll check that one out, thanks for the link!

I think that bottle is from a third party, for what it's worth

What do you mean about bourbon and nonsense?

(I usually only drink single malt from the smaller distilleries in Scotland but I've recently been given a Woodford reserve as a present)

I assume the fact that bourbon is an American product and we've been picking fights with everyone including canada and have devolved into fascism.

I'm sure you can get a decent bourbon style whiskey from other countries but it's a regional product much like scotch is.

Stupid tariff nonsense. Kentucky overwhelmingly voted for tRump. If you got Woodford as a gift, feel free to enjoy it, but I just refuse to buy it anymore.
