she's been handcuffed, threatened, deported and detained yet she's committed no crime. the fact people can still defend Israel is insane to me

What exactly is her crime? A crime that France would have jurisdiction in? Because she was kidnapped in international waters.

Bring a nuisance to racist rich old warmongering capitalist pigs that somehow cling on to power and somehow we agree on that are above the law.

A law that was instated to keep the exact thing from happening, yet somehow we need to learn over and over again.

Enjoying a succulant Chinese dinner.

Wait... no. It was kindness and good will.

There was a fair AP article about that question. She intended to run a military blockade. Is that illegal? At what point does it become illegal? Hell, there's debate as to whether the blockade itself is legal.

Shouldn't they just release her once she touches French soil? She hasn't committed any crimes in France (she technically hasn't committed any crimes in Israel either, since she never willingly stepped in there in the first place, she was kidnapped in international waters) and she is a EU citizen so it's not like it's illegal for her to be in France.

She hasn't committed any crimes that I am aware of since the aid voyage began. Not even the bullshit ones that fascist regimes like to throw out when they want to target specific groups.

I know you aren't trying to suggest that she has, but I believe its important that there isn't any ambiguity in whether she did a crime or not. She was kidnapped by Privateers (state-sanctioned pirates), the goods she was traveling with as well as personal effects were stolen, and she was taken against her will into places and forced to watch people die on video by her kidnappers. At no point in this has a crime been committed in any way that I am aware of. And it especially hasn't been made known by any credible source.

Probably because they're still airside and not officially in France yet? ( I don't know, just guessing )

If she didn't have such a large online and social presence I'm sure nobody would have seen her again, or at least not for a couple years. Which is also the reason they wanted her out of there as soon as possible because she would have told it like it is everywhere she went.

Keep an eye on the remaining 8 who are still in Israeli detention.

She could had refused it. Not jugding her as it is brave enough to throw yourself at fascists for a political statement but i know at least Rima Hasan refused being expelled. This force them having to illegaly keep an european deputy as a criminal when everyone know what Israel did is piratry as the boat was in international waters. It also put French government as this is french citizen being illegaly detained by Israel and they much rather get them back silently than having to interfere and defend them. Again not blaming Greta just wanna highlight this move that is also brave and brillant

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Was Greta made to sign the same thing as Rima?

Honest question. Haven't had time to keep up with the news today

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm not a Christian and I'm not sure whether she is either. But when I think about what Jesus would be doing if he were around today, I imagine the situations in which I see Greta putting herself in.

If only christians would read their own book.

No exceptions

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 37 points 1 day ago

Sucks, but at least she didn’t “fall overboard” and it’s France.

[–] VirgilMastercard@reddthat.com 32 points 1 day ago

Greta is awesome.

[–] thepenismightier@lemm.ee 27 points 1 day ago

Idk it probably feels pretty fucking badass to be so influential that the world leaders in indiscriminate murder are forced to deport you instead of bulldozing you into a shallow grave in the desert...

[–] Pnut@lemm.ee 11 points 1 day ago

At least put the cuffs on the front. If you think she's not a danger to you then fucking prove it.
