They obviously don’t have an EV! So much torque and so much fun!

Yes, in every objective way better.
Though it is oddly understated. You put pedal down, you feel it in your gut but it just does it without drama. No roar, no shifting, just immediate "here you go".
I see that Hyundai made the equivalent of cards in the spokes, fake roar, fake shifting. As stupid as that is, it might be an option to feel a bit more of the "drama" of fast ICE.
I used to drive manuals till I got a caravan and started burning clutches. I moved to automatics for towing as it was just easier all round. The shift to an EV was another easy change.
The lack of drama while driving seems to be a big thing for enthusiasts however I hear the road noise and have decided that it is good not to be contributing unnecessarily to it.
If the enthusiasts get interior speakers to vroom at them, fine. The ones where they point the speakers to the world though...
But ultimately, after the entire history of cars being "vroom means fast", I think it is a tough pill for them to swallow that it isn't a necessary facet of going fast.
Demented boomers in EVs will kill so many people. Imagine a 2.5 metric ton machine flying trough a T intersection straight into a home because the braindead driver slammed the throttle instead of the brakes.
One pedal driving will become the norm. Like a go-kart you take the foot off the accelerator and the regen braking cuts in. Effectively, the brakes aren’t used a lot.
Another change is that they accelerate so quickly that people running the red light run a real risk of being tboned by an EV.
Yeah but once boomer ICE driving instincts wil kick in they think they have to slam the brakes and hit the accelerator when their demented brains fails them.
I suppose you may get that far one. Plenty of people drive Dodge Rams and the like who are incompetent so a few oldies in EVs shouldn’t be a problem.
Just got mine 2 weeks ago and it truly is a game changer. I don't think I could see myself going back to an ICE vehicle ever again.
I have an employee who leased a Kia EV. He was super happy, saying how it was a whole new world, NEVER going back.
Few weeks ago his wipers stopped working. No big deal, drop it off, get it fixed. Been there for almost a month. Now they're talking about wiping each individual computer module and reloading in order to get it working again. Dealer has been working with corporate who engaged their engineering teams because nobody knows why the fuck the wipers won't work.
I am all for EVs, would love one myself. However, it seems that the EV revolution arrived at the same time that the "overly complex for no benefit" revolution did. Also, add in creepy cyber-stalking via unwanted telemetry and I'm just not into it. I don't want to be a luddite who refuses to get with the times, but aside from instant torque, there are not a lot of upsides.
Make something that works, make something reasonably priced and fucking TURN OFF THE CREEPY TELEMETRY and maybe I'll reconsider.
Ha ha, we all know that's not going to happen. Too many revenue streams from service/repair and the money they get from selling your behavioral patterns to every asshole with a few bucks.
Unfortunately the telemetry is not an EV only problem. That's all cars now, and until we make it illegal.
Expect the Slate pickup, they claim.
That's worrisome about the wipers, as is the telemetry. I think my dashboard is Android based, so I wonder if there's any way to sideload APKs for AdAway or something similar. I managed to net a '24 Ioniq 5 Limited, and due to overflow of repaired/rejuvenated ICCU buybacks, got it for $25k. In my case, it was just the 12v battery that needed replacement.
I hope your never in a ICE vehicle, prolly be the last we see of you
When I first typed this up, I knewsomeone would make that quip.
But yep, I sure hope not either 😳
And the ride is just so god damned smooth.
But no vroom sound and clutch, _,
Slightly different topic, but I can't wait for vroom sound to fuck off. Every single night, I have jackasses making their big, strong, manly, vroom vroom sounds by my apartment, and doing wheelspins. Can't wait for that to be taken away over the next 20-ish years by cars simply not making that noise, and being electronically incapable of making wheelspins.
Whats the joke here? Im not a car person.
Valve float is when the cylinder valves are unable to close completely between cycles, usually due to high RPMs beyond the engine's design, but possibly due to very high mileage, often well beyond 100-150k miles. This meme refers to the former.
Longer, more detailed explanation:
Internal combustion engines use something called poppet valves to control the flow of fuel and exhaust into and out of an engine cylinder. A poppet valve is generally a disc shaped, tapered plug atop a longer shaft called the valve stem. The stem runs through a stout spring, then through a hole in a disc attached toward the bottom. Valves are opened by being pressed by their stems, popping up toward the cylinder chamber to open whilst compressing their springs, then being released so the spring can push the valve closed again.
If an engine is driven to rotational speeds beyond its design, the springs may not have enough compressive force to fully control the valves. The valves begin to 'float', where they can be bounced open, opening too far, then are unable to completely close before being bounced open again. This can cause a number of issues, ranging from power loss to catastrophic failure. In high performance engines, this is prevented by stronger springs paired with a stronger, more precise system capable of handling the force required to open them.
The meme is describing someone presumably driving a shitbox car pushed well past its limits to ourperform a high performance vehicle. It's definitely an exaggeration as most vehicles would break well before producing that much force.
I'm assuming the guy on the right's engine is extremely worn in order for valve float to be occurring and that is very much Not A Good Thing (will lead to engine damage once a piston contacts a valve)
So basically they're beating the new car guy in an old worn shitbox
valve float can happen for all sorts of reasons; revving too high, bad lubrication, cam geometry, wrong springs... but if it has float now and didn't before then yeah it's definitely wear.
That's Bernie Sanders.
As a daily Corvette driver I virtual fist bump every shit box owner out there. I've been there and I love you guys. And to every Prius owner giving me the evil eye? I'll make out with every one of you because your a better person than me. And total cost of ownership of my Corvette is half that of my friends Model S and it isn't a bore to drive either.
Also, fuck GM, their never getting a dollar from me again after their superPAC donations. And old men vette owners are REALLY WEIRD.
I’ll make out with every one of you
yeah I think they've already revealed their feelings about pollution, take the fuckin hint.
And old men vette owners are REALLY WEIRD.
it's probably brain damage from all the co2 you end up breathing.

Its true and theyre not even mad about it
As a biker with no bike lanes I detest them both
Drivers didn't spend over 50 years secretly buying and dismantling public transit, forming zoning boards, and lobbying Congress to build car-centric infrastructure using tax dollars from everyone, including non-drivers; billionaires and corporations did those things. If you're going to detest people, detest them. The people driving are just doing their best to get by using the only system they've ever known.
Oh I know it, and it's not the drivers I hate... Unless they are coal rolling and/or trying to run me off the road, which is way more common than you would think. Car companies and lobbyists started it, but some people where I live seem to want to end it/me.
I hate that the state DOT won't just figure out how to put in bike lanes. It's the antithesis of their MO, which seems to be highway widening. If it's one or the other (doesn't have to be!) then that makes me and my agenda extra threatening, I guess.
I feel like the corvette is the worst of every world. Pricy/frequent repairs, not particularly quick acceleration, weird stigma. Compared to many cheaper electric cars with surprising oomf, it feels silly to go with gas for fun. If you have the ability to charge an electric car, anyway
not particularly fast
Everything I've heard about the ZR1 is generally positive. I was under the impression that it was very competitive with other "super cars" often for substantially less money.
Agreed. Not sure what this guy is talking about. Are they perfect? No. But for an ICE car, it's really fast. Electric have the benefit of all the torque available without the need to rev.
I'll need you to boot up your favorite racing game and try to understand how incomparable a 2 ton EV that zips straight is to a sports car. Driving dynamics of EVs suck and will continue to suck until they can get battery weight down.
I see your point... But in no world is an EV a replacement of a Corvette or similar car...
What car a "car person" buys is not because of a numbers games, or its features, or its practicality, it is just because certain cars give a sort of "emotion" that connects with them. As someone who has driven loud but genuinely slow cars like Toyota Chasers, RB20 swapped Silvias, forged billet built 4g63 evo's, but then something like an Audi E-tron GT, the etron of course is faster, more comfort, more festures, but they feel "sanitized" where as the others you have to conform to the car. EV's are amazing cars, but give you no connection to the car or the road, there is no personality. If you're not into cars, it sounds dumb, but as much as corvette owners, or dodge demon buyers will tell you the 0-60 times, the 1/4 miles trap speeds, the power of the car, the real reason is it conveys an emotion that connects with them that a Tesla doesn't, a Porsche Taycan doesn't, a ioniq 5 N doesn't, etc, they're great amazing cars, but they don't let you turn your brain off the world and needing you to focus on driving, like listening to your favorite song does, some songs are just noise, but some let you forget about the world and just focus on the moment
🤣
Vette's are basically just a Chevy small block with wheels and a fiberglass shell. They're very fast and they corner extremely well with such a low center of gravity. They are a pain in the ass to maintain though.
The new ones corner well. The old ones, well, pull up some of the old top gear episodes where they tested vets on their courses.
