Maybe, I am no expert. But there are 3 prominent sources of Anglo-Saxons of which I am aware, Angles from Angeln (Germany, used to be Danish), Jutes from Jutland (Denmark) and Saxons from nowhere near Saxony (Germany).
lol i meant frisians, mixed up my sourkraut eaters. frisian is the closest relative of english and in late antiquity they were barely differentiated, they made up a good portion of "anglo-saxon" settlers but didn't leave their name on the important bits of land so they dont get a grain of credit.
Ah, well, Frisians make more sense than the Flemish (Although I can't rule out either, as I am no historian). Especially given that Frisians and Saxons were neighbours. Admittedly I think Frisians in general just tend to get skipped over when discussing history, maybe except for a brief mention of the Frisian Freedom.

You ever think about how a bunch of the Anglo Saxon Housecarls fled after Hastings and joined the Eastern Roman Varangian Guard (the place many Norse joined, including Harald Harada who also lost in 1066 at Stamford bridge) only to eat shit against an entirely different group of Normans in Sicily?
the Englino-Varangoi probably weren't involved in Sicilia, just the clash at Durrës, for that (small) heap of soldiers it must've been hilarious though.

you're remembering fine, it's just the emperors were not interested in defending sicilia/apulia so the varangoi(as imperial bodyguards) weren't involved until the too-little-too-late grain of hostilities
This isnt a bad post at all. Ive used closs to that sentence talking about mideval history at work. My work pal is a dnd guy and I think ive said basically this out loud once cause he uses me as a resource to try to get the fantasy medivslism have the best internal logic it can. He wanted to do a courtroom drama bit with his players, which is great idea and we worked out how a trial would operate so it wasn't a mirror of a modern procedure.
