"Never invade Russia, you fools." -- Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Scientists wonder whether the October Revolution was an example of Russia invading itself or merely a transformation of Russia. Research is ongoing.

CW: mention of death, suicide, drug use, etc.

awful stuffIs it unrealisic to want someone who doesn't drink, smoke, or do anything else as a potential partner? Living in a country where those things are the norm, and you are seen as weak for not doing them makes it extremely difficult to find anyone at all. At times I feel like he only person in all of the balkans who doesn't drink. I'd rather die of natural causes than smoke, and would rather kill myself than vape. Not that I want to die in the slightest, but I find death preferable to drug use. I wish I could say that "I let people enjoy things", but I'm a serial hater, whether it be gatekeeping bands, or hating the bourgeoisie. I think I only brcame straight edge due to being traumatized by other peoples drug use (something that I'm not gonna get into now). To me it like a very individualist "solution" to drug use. I can't help but put people down for whatever they do (finding out someone smokes instantly makes me think less of them), and that is a personal failing that is going to take some time to rectify. Seeing someone you love resorting to self medication instead of pursuing help is a horrible thing to see. There are definetly easier ways to learn not to hang out with the bourgeoisie than traumatising yourself. But this is definetly getting in the territory of self-pity, so it's best to leave this rant here.

Is it an autism thing or a writing essay thing to seperate rants into paragraphs?

Smoking is fair but I feel like no drinking at all will be very difficult. The people you'll find that would share your opinion on alcohol are likely to be close in some way to an alcoholic or extremely religious.

[–] muhg@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

No drinking is a fantasy, I wish I could find someone like that but I've settled on them drinking in moderation. I think "I only drink at parties" means they do, then get plastered chugging vodka and I'm the one left to babysit them, because I'm the only sober one there. Not like this has happened to me twice or anything. With groups of 5 at once. Seriously, do rich people have no self control?

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

i'm a teetotaler and neither of those things 🤷‍♀️

[–] Maeve@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago

I don't know about unrealistic, but it's not unreasonable.

No, rants come in various lengths, good writing skills make them easier to read and comprehend.

I went to visit Chethams library in Manchester because Marx and Engels used to study there and their study corner is still there. I expected to be probably the only one hyped for it (it is a 70 min tour of lots of things after all) but multiple people nearly RAN to the booth as soon as we saw it lol. They had books on Engles for sale as well and they were all gone after the tour. Sometimes I'm surprised to see other commies in the wild.

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

communists are returning to libraries; nature is healing 💙

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 4 days ago

I hope we have more libraries in the United States

The web being full of liberals is never a great thing but at least it usually doesn't prevent me for watching entertainment videos. For some reasons though I have encountered quite a lot of videos with crazy claims in the last two days. Your typical "communism requires following a leader without questioning them" or "Stalin committed atrocities" or "Cuba is a dictatorship" and I even got a bit of "Sweden is true socialism" and "people in Finland are happier than in China, therefore the Finnish system is better."
I have no idea how this happened, I wasn't even watching anything overtly political, but it was a bit infuriating.
What do you do when you are in a bad mood comrades? Me, I like to write stuff.

[–] RedPartisan@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Doesn't Finland have a significant suicide rate? And also a lot of Neo-Nazis?

Anyway, social media platforms seem to tend to form a balance between ragebait recommendations and normal recommendations to get you to spend as much time in them as possible. If you follow a lot of things the solution is RSS. If you stick to a few corporate platforms anyway the solution is third party clients that filter out the algorithmic stuff if possible.

I try to distract myself when I'm in a bad mood. Mainly play video games while listening to some podcast. Neurotypicals may struggle with doing both at the same time, or maybe not, I don't know.

[–] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's just how Western platforms work, anticommunist content will always be promoted, regardless of what you watch. For YouTube, you can use a proxy like inv.nadeko.net to avoid the tracking and "tailored" recommendations, at the expense of stability.

[–] RedPartisan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Using a local client is much better. Like PipePipe on Android. It's not as smooth an experience as it used to be since YouTube sucks, but it's still preferable to a public Invidious instance in my opinion. Selfhosting a private Invidious instance could be a solution too, I don't have the money to selfhost stuff so I can't comment on it though.

What's a good way to "theoretically" scam businesses? Invoice thing used to work more but since the economy is getting worse they're starting to actually check them.

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

🫵 You WILL have hope, comrade.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago

I have hope and it will remain there in the future.

Have a wonderful week, everyone! Also, we are doing a reading of This Soviet World over on Hexbear, the thread started today on c/soviet, so if you haven't read it yet it's a great chance to start!

As always, communism will win.

I've been wanting to try a mock gov/online pol sim, does anyone know any good ones? I think it'd be fun.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I have wanted to do a MUD since 2002.

...I really should just resurrect my idea for it and implement it...

[–] TabularTuxedo@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A MUD? I've never played one but it looks fun

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago

I miss them ;_;

[–] reallybigShell@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't know what a MUD is but you should do it! Sounds like fun!

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nobody 'members 😭😭

Old Web 1.0 is DEAD

kim-gun

[–] reallybigShell@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You should implement it! I know a little bit of coding I could help too if you want

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I may also need help with my Internet forum (it's ready, it just doesn't have a mod team and, arguably, it may not even have any real distinction or focus to it at this juncture)

[–] reallybigShell@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

ooh you could start a new community on the site so everyone can discuss it further ??

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago

Well, back on the late 1990s and 2000s, forums usually had MUDs

But it's been a long time now.

[–] Marat@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

[–] DonLongSchlong@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 5 days ago

[–] muhg@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)
