CW: mention of death, suicide, drug use, etc.

awful stuffIs it unrealisic to want someone who doesn't drink, smoke, or do anything else as a potential partner? Living in a country where those things are the norm, and you are seen as weak for not doing them makes it extremely difficult to find anyone at all. At times I feel like he only person in all of the balkans who doesn't drink. I'd rather die of natural causes than smoke, and would rather kill myself than vape. Not that I want to die in the slightest, but I find death preferable to drug use. I wish I could say that "I let people enjoy things", but I'm a serial hater, whether it be gatekeeping bands, or hating the bourgeoisie. I think I only brcame straight edge due to being traumatized by other peoples drug use (something that I'm not gonna get into now). To me it like a very individualist "solution" to drug use. I can't help but put people down for whatever they do (finding out someone smokes instantly makes me think less of them), and that is a personal failing that is going to take some time to rectify. Seeing someone you love resorting to self medication instead of pursuing help is a horrible thing to see. There are definetly easier ways to learn not to hang out with the bourgeoisie than traumatising yourself. But this is definetly getting in the territory of self-pity, so it's best to leave this rant here.

Is it an autism thing or a writing essay thing to seperate rants into paragraphs?

That's perfectly reasonable, neither me nor my partner smoke, drink, do drugs, or other negative activities, and we are both incredibly happy with each other and the relationship. We don't even avoid such activities for religious or some sort of moral reason, we just enjoy a vast array of other interests, and drinking, clubbing, and drugs are expensive. Plus, after spending a short stint in the medical field, and seeing firsthand what even light smoking and drug use to the human body, I can't think of anything I'd want in my body less then drugs.

It's kind of impossible to not judge others by the standards we set for ourselves, but I think it is important to learn to isolate that judgement from the appreciation of someone else as an individual---social life is full of contradiction and you must learn to operate with these ambiguities---that is to say, I don't think you need to stop being critical of how people use substances but you can compartmentalize this thought and still be friendly with people. From another perspective, people are usually offended by judgement of their habits, so it doesn't serve you to share these thoughts directly. They will be more receptive to you and your ethical code if you give them enough subtle social signals that you don't care what they do, and if you actually want to change someone's behavior you have to form this social bond first.

And with regards to partners, it's not unrealistic but you may have to be very patient. Personally I sometimes think about how capitalism reifies this one path of life, finding a life partner and starting a family. All the media and narratives in our current society reify this, elevating and transforming the sexual impulse towards this; whereas in radically different social contexts of the past it was not pathological to deviate from this. Engels wrote about this ("On the Origin of the Family" I think) and as comunists we should interrogate all aspects of the existing social order.

Perfectly normal position tbh.

I also don't touch drugs, alcohol, or tobacco and try to avoid those who do - especially tobacco as I'm allergic to tobacco smoke.

Smoking is fair but I feel like no drinking at all will be very difficult. The people you'll find that would share your opinion on alcohol are likely to be close in some way to an alcoholic or extremely religious.

No drinking is a fantasy, I wish I could find someone like that but I've settled on them drinking in moderation. I think "I only drink at parties" means they do, then get plastered chugging vodka and I'm the one left to babysit them, because I'm the only sober one there. Not like this has happened to me twice or anything. With groups of 5 at once. Seriously, do rich people have no self control?

i'm a teetotaler and neither of those things 🤷‍♀️

I don't know about unrealistic, but it's not unreasonable.

No, rants come in various lengths, good writing skills make them easier to read and comprehend.
