World Cup in what sport?

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 hour ago

Seriously, thank fuck.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 hours ago

That was pretty invasive I must say. Even at the grocery store, everywhere I looked it was FIFA on deodorant, cookies, cans of soup, flags, towels, napkins, shorts, hot dogs...etc., etc., ad infinitum. Sheesh!

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

I'm just glad the late games are over.

[–] Abyssian@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Next week baseketball or superb owl or some other shit will start. It never ends. Never.

[–] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

superb owl

Wouldn't some superb owls tbh.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 9 points 4 hours ago

I dont watch it but I did appreciate seeing so many people happy and enjoying something. I think the world needed that little break. Anyway back to regular programming, millions dying in Ukraine and war in the middle east pushing us closer to economic depression.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 22 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh fucking yes, finally i will not have it shoved on my face costantly

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It's overdone. I really don't need drinks and food branded by FIFA.

[–] protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

wait till you see the disgrace that it is in brazil during world cup

[–] Blubber28@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Same. I'm grateful our national team got knocked out pretty quickly. I was not looking forward to all the partying and noise in the streets if they'd won. Now I can just get on with my day without all the hassle :)

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I enjoyed dabbling, but in the future, if they roll around and hold their foot/ankle in pain, they shouldn't get to use that foot/ankle for the rest of the game.

You're clearly very injured and we insist you care for yourself.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 hours ago

Depends tbh, there are injuries you can get which hurt a lot for a few seconds but you are quickly fine enough to carry on after. Fallen off a bike before and it really fucking hurts. Then a few minutes later cycling along again and it only hurts a little bit.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

the world cup being in the front page news far longer than it shouldve been, usually it just squirrels back to sports centric media/and forums.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 23 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

I fucking hate football, a bunch of morons running on a field with a ball and get millions for that while i work my ass for a few thousand, fuck off and the the constant questions "did you see the game yesterday", no i don't WATCH FUCKING FOOTBALL!!!

[–] Event_Horizon@lemmy.world 28 points 6 hours ago

You sound a bit stressed, maybe you should go outside and kick a football around to relax.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Not even the highlights? 😇

Both of them!

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 0 points 5 hours ago

I always hated football too!

Then I played a football video game (PES). I like it a lot more now!

[–] A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 32 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I have a burning hatred for football and football hooliganism.

[–] Hazel@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 6 hours ago

Ugh, especially the hooliganism. People are way too mild on the hateful competitivism it breeds in fans and the millions it costs for demolishing our cities.

[–] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I have a "I don't give a shit" about football but a love for hoolaganism

[–] A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

well, pay to fix all the destruction then.

and made me arrive on time each time football hooligans take the street and my bus has to be diverted.

[–] BigBoyShuanzee@aussie.zone 21 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'm going to miss getting to annoy my English, Bosnian and Croatian colleagues by calling it "The Big Soccerball game"

And asking "why the players don't just pick up the ball and run with it.. that would be faster".

Or lastly "When is someone going to throw a pie to make this more interesting?"

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

"You know what would make this more interesting... MULTIBALL!!!"

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 43 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

They say it's a cup, yet it is clearly participated on a field. And that field is plainly not big enough to house the whole world.

Lies through and through.

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

The cup is the world

[–] areakode@riskeratspizza.com 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

At least Trump won the game! Spain on the other hand... Terrible people. Terrible. Rapists and murderers. But they are winners when they get to stand in the man's presence. /s

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Does that mean we all... lost the game?

(le 2008 meme fedora tip)

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 3 points 8 hours ago

The game has concluded since the Queen is dead.

[–] AliOski@feddit.nl 7 points 10 hours ago

Nah, I'll miss it for another 4 years. It was incredibly fun, except Argentina.

And how The Netherlands got knocked out pretty early.

[–] rock_hand@lemmy.world 12 points 15 hours ago (3 children)
[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 hours ago

Bunch of millionaires rolling around once they get bumped, acting like they broke their leg in half. Run by a corrupt organization that ignores human rights and puts up ads on every flat surface in the world.

I also think it's a dumb sport but that's beside the point.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 38 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Well the train service will go back to normal and several of our parks and streets won't be Fan Zones any more.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 2 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Sir, this is the United States

[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 hour ago

No it's not

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'm a woman and I live in Canada, maybe that explains it.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 3 points 37 minutes ago

As a man from the United States, I've never heard of such things. Canada? Woman? What sorcery is this

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 10 hours ago

The memes were cool and all, but I definitely didn't have a team to cheer for, personally.

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I'm not sure I'd notice

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 0 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yes and no here, amazingly. I don't like football (or "soccer" as the ignorant call it). But I really liked the empty roads in the next city when our team played. That city has a very big traffic problem, and currently has to cope with 150000 extra cars per day passing through.

[–] nycvin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

(or “soccer” as the ignorant call it).

You shouldn't insult the English like that, they invented the game!
